  1. Hi, and welcome to the forum Robbo, I'm just up the A38 from you in Newton Abbot, you'll have to have a ride up for the BMAD Wednesday bike night on Paignton sea front, theres still a few left before the season ends.
  2. Brilliant find Dave, had it been altered much at all? Looking forward to see your project of it, and if I can help any, gizza shout, may seek pointers and tips myself
  3. Aye, deffo, T-cut and 1200 will sort the runs out,or just T-cut, microfibre cloth and loads of elbow grease, btw are you spraying flat or spraying the sides of the tank when upright, I only ask this, as when I sprayed mine I tried to spray each surface as flat/horizontal as posible, try and position your tank so that each side is not upright, whilst spraying it, if you see what I mean, it eliminates runs, what I did was put a broomhandle in a vice, and sat the tank on that, the foam padding underneath the tank pretty much clamped onto the broom handle, enabling it to be 'turned' so each side lay flat, for spraying.
  4. Hi and welcome to the forum 400, and boy will Mervin just love you, he's an RD madhead too
  5. Do you mean like 'engine hunting'? if so, a richer fuel to air mixture generally sorts this out.
  6. Coming along nicely Weimie, reckon about two more weeks and you'll be rinky-dink-dinging around mate, that tail piece you were on about, the metal one, are same on the old xt's too, but if you're happy with the DT one, and it certainly looks o.k, then alls good in da hood, you say you're not happy with the lacquering, is that because of orange peel? because it will come out eventually, 1200 used with T-cut will sort that out for you, and you can never have too many layers of lacquer, as it gives the paintwork more depth to it. A tip on the auxillary petrol tank, I use an old plastic lawnmower one, its about 1.5 litres capacity, enough to start the bike for a bit any way, and safer than a cider bottle plus an inline tap on the piping to the carb helps somewhat too, either borrowed off your old Atco, or nip down to your local recycling centre is your best bet, couple of quid should sort it. Hope this helps, Nev
  7. Very much doubt it's rings or piston, you say you've read up what the possible cause would be? This sounds like timing gone kaput, if it were CDI gone, you'd get nowt, my lads scooter did same as your bike a while back, loud bang then nothing, turned out it was the woodruff key broke and slipped out BTW does it still pop loudly when you try and start it?

    Reed Petals

Aye Drewps they do, could imagine the screws would bugger summat up,mind, if one came loose
  9. Other thing I'd check on would be the exhaust back box, dependant on how long you'd been running so rich, as a carbon clogged up baffle will affect performance too.
  10. Hold on a sec, I've fed both inner cables + washer from the top, so I need to feed from the bottom? I'll go have a look on the xt tomorrow, see how that ones fitted

    Reed Petals

To be honest Merv, I was more concerned with the screws coming out, so banged some loctite on them just to make sure.

    Reed Petals

Aye, OG theres a corner snipped off both petals, so I put the new ones the same as the old ones, tops are exactly the same mind, http://www.gileraspares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?ModelID=9138&pageID=7&uid=0 The parts website, A J Suttons.
  13. Just read this Kiln http://www.dansmc.com/2stroke_oil.htm Still not convinced Dans right, though, like I say when a motorcycle shop's engineer who has worked on bikes for nigh on 40 years recommends a ratio of 40-1 for my bike, my moneys on him being correct.
  14. You sure Dan recommended 20-1, Kiln, as I've never known a ratio that high in 2t oil
  15. Managed to change my reed petals to new hy-tech race carbon ones today, both exactly the same thickness and size, but I'd say slightly stiffer than standard ones, the thing is when I went to the exploded view on the parts page, the standard petals show different numbers and prices the same with the metal stoppers, does anybody know why this is, as I've looked and cant see any difference whatsoever. 2 = REED VALVE @ £14.43 3 = STOPPER, REED VALVE @ £6.21 6 = REED VALVE @ £13.85 7 = STOPPER, REED VALVE @ £5.92 Have I missed something or what, is there a difference on each side?
  16. Its possible that the woodruff key that holds the stator onto the crankshaft may have broken/come out, messing up the timing, the bang you heard could be a backfire due to this, only guessing mind
  17. Hi and welcome to the nuthouse Jimbo, nah you'll soon loose yer grip.....on reality that is, same as the rest of us in here mate have fun, ride safe.
  18. Hi and welcome to the forum Ange, got a xvs1300 ey? bet you've not asked for a pickle jar to be opened for a while then
  19. After asking the chaps at Cornish Motorcycles who did my rebore, what they recommended as a pre-mix ratio, they reckoned 40-1 was a decent mix, I had usually pre-mixed at 42-1 anyway. Heres a program to download that will help you with any ratios you need. http://www.dansmc.com/mc_software.htm scroll down towards bottom of the page for the download. Nev BTW It was reccomended I use this stuff too, so I'll be giving it a go Morris Lubricants Supersport 2i Two Stroke Oil or Silkolene Comp 2 2-stroke Pre-Mix & Injector Oil you can get these oils on Ebay
  20. Hi, and welcome to the forum fourduce,
