I've seen a couple locally with asking prices of about $5k.
  2. You should be able to find those jets at your local Yamaha shop.

My XS360-2D doesn't have canceling T/S, maybe you could compare your wiring diagram to the 360's.

    Rim specs?
  5. BRB replied to Campbell45's post in a topic in Classics
Then you will need a 2.5" rim to fit that tire (130/90)on the rear at minimum according to the chart. Does your rim have any size markings on it?
  6. BRB replied to Campbell45's post in a topic in Classics
What size rims? Compare your rim size to Drewpy's chart.
  7. BRB replied to Campbell45's post in a topic in Classics
There is a limit of tire size according to your rim size and also restrictions for tire size when it comes to chain rub, swing arm dimensions, etc.. If your going to retain the stock rim then you will need to install it and take some measurements. Next you will want to research maximum tire sizes that will fit your rim. Just remember that fitting a very wide tire on a smaller rim might work but will change the profile to the point that the intended performance characteristics of said tire will be compromised which in turn will compromise your handling characteristics.

The petcock kit you need should be the top one shown on the link. http://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?make=YAMAHA&model=XS400&part=Fuel+Petcock+Repair+Kits&partno=&x=56&y=12&search=search As far as cleaning your carbs, a local carb rebuilding shop may have a ultrasonic tank (preferred) or you can by some Yamalube carb dip which mixes with water and a large second hand electric slow cooker (check the wattage, mine is a 475w) will do the trick.

I studied the pic a little closer and saw the battery box built into the the bottom of the seat pan. Electrics are probable mounted underneath also.

I really like the styling of your bike. Did you keep the stock battery box? I'm trying to figure out where to mount mine because I'm going with the open skeletal look and looking at the picture of the cafe that Drewpy sent I'm at a loss to where they hide/mount it. What is the length and brand of rear shocks your using? And is that a custom seat or a reworked of the shelf cafe seat?

  12. I was thinking of buying the pod filter from Mike's for my XS360, what do you feel is wrong with them? The Uni pods are foam filters right? Can they be cleaned and how do they out perform the pods from Mike's?

You have to download your pic to a photo sharing site like photobucket and then copy img code and paste to your forum post.

Yes I see what you mean. Mine is slightly bent forward from vertical and your mount is angled back to except the Special tank. It shouldn't be that hard to fix, you might be able to cut flat plate and bend mount to except tank and weld. You might want to fab after you find the tank though. I found a decent '77 XS400 tank on eBay for about $40 shipped to use for my cafe seat cowl.

The top tube is welded into a cross brace. It is not flat but round tube (pipe). I think you measured back to far.

I modified photo's of my frame to show the measurements. I used a 1" wide carpenters tape taking the measurements from the top of the blade as you face it. All measurements taken from left side of frame.

I could give you a few measurements off my bike to see if yours could except the same tank as mine. I will post tomorrow some time.

2L0 is a 1978 XS400E. The frame looks ditto to my 360 frame but you will definitely need a few measurements if you plan on using the squarish tank.

Raask makes a set that's supposed to work. I saw somewhere where a guy bought a set on eBay off of a Maxim/Seca and mounted them to his XS360/400. Here is a link for some XS650 rearsets that would be easy to convert but they look like there mounted with bushings instead of bearings, I think you would have to e-mail to find out specifics: XS650 Rearsets

Have you checked the gap on your valves maybe a little out of adjustment.
  21. BRB replied to gs360's post in a topic in Classics
Well GS360 you can check them by starting the bike then spraying carb cleaner or WD40 around the intake joint and see if it hesitates or just cuts the motor completely. Maybe a complete removal and inspection is in order if they lok suspect at all. It could be that the clamp needs tightening, the rubber is cracked all the way through or you have a bad gasket or possible need to tighten the intake rubber connection to the head (careful not to over-torque if you find that it's loose) . I think the XS400 intake rubbers will work if you can't track down the XS360 replacements, the factory part #'s are the same except for the first three digits. I know they use a similar carb if not the exact same one. Check the bigger motorcycle parts houses, they may also help on cross-referencing part #'s that work. BRB

Is your rubber intake (carb Holder) cracked?

I found it somewhat hard tracking down the right brake shoes for my cafe project but after a lot of research I found about four different brands to choose from. Out of the four there was only one really worth buying that would give braking performance much higher than stock and when talking two-wheel drum setup this definitely is a significant point. I decide after a lengthy conversation with a vintage motorcycle brake specialist in California who discussed/compared all other manufacturers products in great detail to purchase the Ferodo brand shoes. Definite no-brainer! The part #'s are FSB 770 front and FSB 736 for those of you out there who are interested in buying a new set or are having trouble tracking down the right ones. The cost difference is about $10 US more for the fronts and about $0-3 US more for the rears when comparing to other brands. When it comes to brake performance a couple dollars savings shouldn't even be apart of the equation. BRB

Great, lots of info to look at and contemplate about. If you look at my last post reply to XSwheels I left a link to a site that sells one piece reg/rec units $99. I figured through the specs given in the manual that the alternator puts out about 150w at 5krpm. Do you know the figure at idle because I'm wondering if the system will handle an upgraded H4 headlamp? BRB

Hey that's great you found a replacement so cheap on fleabay I know they're a fairly expensive part. So is the 400 a one piece unit? Military mode? What is the look of this style your going after? Did some quick research and found this unit that claims to replace the part# I found listed in the parts fiche for the XS360 rectifier unit. A little expensive but most likely more efficient and modern than the stock parts: http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2688 I did some follow up on this part and it does replace the two piece unit and they have another unit that is of the heavier heavy duty variety that they will email me the link once they get it listed. This unit may seem expensive but compared to replacing the stock parts it's a bargain. This is the updated link for the heavier duty XS360 reg/rec: http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catalog/19771979-Yamaha-XS360-Regulator-Rectifier
