Bad luck Friedegg, Dont worry too much about it, youll get it next time and now at least you know whats ahead of ya.
  6. Are ya Good with engines ? Its a complicated and time-consumin job, not to be taken on by the fainthearted or inexperienced. I have never done it on a bike before but have on a diesel engine. First off you could check the gap's to see if they are within the spec's. If they are then leave them alone. If the yam garage says they can hear the tappets clicking loudly then maby they do need reseting, but the yam garage would say that anyway --- wouldnt they ! Under the rocker-cover on the top of your engine you will see something the same as in Vez picture. You check each tappet with a feeler-guage as in the picture, But, as you check each one you need to make absalutley sure the tappet is at the very top of its stroke as the crank is turned over with a spanner on the crank nut. When its at the top of its stroke you should be able to slip in the feeler-guage nice and snug between the tappet and the top of the valve. First check the inlet valves and then the exhaust valves. If they are within the specs given in your manual then leave them as they are and put back togeather. If not then you have to choices. (1) Do them yourself (2) leave the engine stripped as it is and take it back to the garage, (this will save you a small fortune on labour as the work is allready done for the garage) they can then get straight to work on re-setting the valves. They have sexy lettle guages to tell them when every tappet is at its top, plus the blame lies with them if anything goes wrong with your engine after the job is done. So because of this (me personaly) i would get them to do it for you. If you still plan on doing this yourself then get some one you know who is good with engines to help you out as it is not the kind of thing someone can help you with through posting like this ---- would need to be there with ya ----- you get what im saying. After all that, it is not all that hard a job to do, its just slow, time consuming and something you have to get right. A tell tale sign on the valves being off there settings is, constant white smoke when the engine is warm, the engine being really slugish and making a rappid tapping noise in all rev ranges especialy the high revs. Anyway hope this helps and good luck with whatever method you take. God dan that took me ages to type.
  7. Why do you have to reset them ? What has happened to your engine ? Has it got huge milage on it ? Just wondering !!

  16. O My God-------- she'll be back to give you a full in depth view of the Irish language if your not carefull Isnt that right, Karen----- our new 40ish Goth Biker
  17. Might your throttle cable be stuck on, You should give the carb a good clean as if you dont you will keep having small probs. While you have carb off you can check that everything is in right and that you dont have a worn needle or seat. The float could be stuck causing the dripping of fuel, (either ither or) you should take carb off for cleaning and checking. Youll be glad you did !

    nervous

Yep, relax and ride like you always do but with more care and attention. If you fail----just do it again !!! You will be fine if you have learnt what you have been taught. Good luck.
  19. Happy Birthday Drewps. Hope you have a good one Another year wiser Now, off you go and get pissed up--- or whatever takes your fancy !!!
  20. 95psi doesnt seem that bad for that engine (tzr 50). Getting 125psi with a squirt of oil---- you are always going to get more psi when you do this, even on good piston rings. Do you know how many miles are on the bike ?? If she starts first go on bump start then i think you are just making work for yourself by stripping the head to check the rings. That said you could do it and give it a good de-coke while your at it!! I would sort out the clutch drag first, i know your starting in neutral but for some reason the starter cant cope and wont let the engine fire-up. Again more use of the bike and the starter, might free everything up and she might start to gradualy firing up on the button. Thats what i would try first before you go stripping the head.
  21. Oh yea, sorry me only read the "favorite classic" bit.
  22. Mine would have to be the Norton 500. Such a torquey animal of a bike and so much power. Once had the pleasure of a spin on one, would realy love to find one and restore it.
  23. Very nice mate very nice I think i rather the naked look Welcome to the YOC
  24. em !!! if ya just pedal hard on an ordinary bike you would do 40mph and ya'd be as fit as a fiddle !
  25. Sorry mate i have no answers for you but there are a couple of 175 owners on here that might be able to sort ya out !!
