  1. Well, its been a while The engine is now ready to go in, still have to sort out the carb settings,,,, idel and float Project had come to another stop as was busy at work and then my Mother-in-law took ill,,,, hopefully she will be allright again but she's still in hospital.
  2. Lying up for 6 months,,,,,, this is on the border line of your carb needing a clean,,,,,, not hard to do,,,,take your time,,,,,clean out all the little holes so you can see daylight through them,,,,,,, try not to adjust any of the settings on some of the screws, but if you have to, count how many turns it takes to get it out and then when reasembling screw them back in the same amount. Its better to screw them in first while counting and then out but i wont confuse you. However, i am thinking, although the bike is starting and running you might just get away with giving the bike a good hard run, for say an hour. This may get the fuel flowing through the carb enough to disolve away anything that might be a bit gumed up from lying for 6 months. Although this probbly wont disolve the starter jet or the chooke but it might just do enough to get your bike ideling good and then you can tell more wheather it needs carb cleaned or not. It would be a good idea to clean the carb anyway, especially as the weather MIGHT pick up a bit and it seems you are going to use the bike a fair bit so ya might as well get it going as good as possible. Nothing worse than having to push your bike along a main road. Whats this about the engine not matching the V5 ????? Will she fail MOT because of this ????
  3. Well, keep us posted on what ya do, eh! With lots of pictures Cheers
  4. Mine is fine Blackie Jason,,,,, is it not possible to rotate the carbs enough to get bowl's off like on single cylinder bikes
  5. I have the DT 125r 2002 Honestly, the best setup for the sprockets is the standard sprockets. This gives the bike the best performance in all situations. I do however have a rear sprocket with 2 theeth less. I bought it for a few long journeys i was doing,,,,,,, lower revs and fuel saving No idea where ya would get a blue sprocket
  6. You only need electricks,,,,, the rest can go sell the bike to me
  7. That is so true and often overlooked
  8. Try 2 more teeth on the rear You might have enough space in the adjustment of the chain at the rear wheel,,,, therefor you might not need a new chain,,,, provided the chain is ok in the first place. By right when changing a chain you should change both sprockets at the same time Welcome to the YOC Have you introduced yourself ?????????
  9. Check bars for straightness / bentness and that the bars are straight when the bike is going straight If you have vibes in the bars or front end wobble then you will have to check wheel alignment Sorry for your troubles dude !
  10. Can you open up them DEP's to have a look an see if its squashed,,,,,,,, is the back of the DEP just rivited on,,,,if so id'd have it off for a look. In a way, it is just a noise thing,,,,,,,,,,BUT (important) your exhaust is now more free-flowing so your engine will now be running that bit more lean. You could leave the exhaust noisy if ya want but you will have to adjust your carb to suit. It would be far easier to open the silencer and re-pack with new wool / nylon,,,,whatever its called. Have a look at exhaust and see whats in there in terms of packing
  11. Depending on what kind of packing is in them DEP's,,,,,,, (wool or Steel, i'm not sure) If its wool then mabey it has gone all soggy from getting wet and now isnt doing its silencing job at all
  12. If you have a manual set the carb to what it says. Hope you got all the broken rings out,,,, Because its freshly rebuilt your compression will be low,,,,,,, the engine cant draw the fuel through Try putting a teaspoon full of 2stroke oil down the plug hole. turn the engine over a few times. Then try bumpstart down a big hill of a push like Airhead said. Full choke on,,,,,,second gear no throttle for now
  13. Ok, so you have tryed a few things to get her running,,,,,,,, what we need to know is a bit of history about the bike Do you know why it needed a new piston? Did it ever run when you owned the bike? The old carb was probably fine What changes did you do to the new carb? Is the carb bowl filling with fuel? The more info you can give us the better !
  14. Hi, You wont get much answers if ya dont intorduce yourself in the new members section However, newly rebuilt engines can be hard to get firing first off. Try puting some fuel in the plug hole,,,,, do this with the piston Almost at the top of its stroke,,,,,refit plug and try again. See how ya get on
  15. Welcome to the YOC Have patience and faith,,,,,,, she will be a great wee bike
  16. Ive never had a bike with ABS,,,,,ive ridden bikes with ABS So my judgment might be off a bit To me ABS is over-rated,,,,,, grand if its on the bike when you buy but i wouldnt fork out the money just to have it. Learn to ride correctly and ABS wont even come into the equasion (is that spelt right?)
  17. They dont have a chrome barel, and yes you can rebore,,,,,, but like blackhat says,,check tolerence's before you do anything
  18. Aye,, Thats right ! Failte go dith an YOC
  19. Fair play on passin. Any pics of your DRZ 400 ???
  20. Bloody ele John,,,,,, i really love it,,,,,,so much so that i want one ! Jaysus its in class condition Lovely shape to them. Were ya lookin for it for long ? GPZ engine,,,,thats a bonus,,,,there a great motor Cant wait to see her in the flesh sometime,,,sooner rather than later May she ware well for ya ps, Sye's quad looks serious business compared to mine
