Will agree with Vic on the labelling on the loom , I know it sounds stupid but have you had the engine running? its will be pain if you have done all this work and more to come to find out your engines a duffer i go for originalty myself not into the street fighter look as you seem to have all the plastics, keep the photos coming though it will be intresting to see what your fizzer turns out like are you painting the frame yourself , i would get everthing off to the blasters and powder coated , but that depends on your budget

  5. Try this, Oven pride, get a few bottles its only £3-4 a bottle ,bung one end and fill it to the brim of your exhaust and leave for 24 48 hrs,the longer the better did mine brill in side, got the tip of the mrs , when she was cleaning the oven pulls off all the baked on carbon and grease , so i thought it might work on carbon and 2 stroke oil, when you have finished, you always get some big poly bags for the baking trays , but you can pour all the gung into the bag then pour it into a container then dispose properly.

Have you had the clutch out or replaced, changed the oil ,we need a bit more input? was it fine before you put it away for winter it could be one of your saftey switches just sticking though, I had the same problem on my FZR , clutch in, into to first then it would just die , turns out it was the side stand safety switch not fully returning home have a look, get all the gung out spray with Wd40 and work it up and down until you can see the plunger returning fully home, it worth a go first

  14. Your battery sounds ok mate , you need to check your wiring connections from the battery to the relay , make sure their are no fusty connnections make sure the starter relay is firmly connected disconnect your battery first, then give the wiring a little shake to see if anything has worked loose, clean up your connection and see how you go oh and try clutch in, side stand up, neutral but it could be a seized bearing in the starter motor its self can u post a u tube vid of you trying to start it

it could be because the bike as been laid up for some time that it is just condestation hence the white smoke if it will run can you take it for a good run and get up to running temp, then see if you still have white smoke when you say pop was it from the exhaust or the carbs or was the pop more like a bang from the engine, just read your post again and i presume that it wont start if someone has looked at your starter motor, hope its not seized , think you need to do compression test if possible and report back
  19. Are you sure its a brand new battery and that it is fully charged? put a meter on the battery and check the readings you should have at least 11.5v on a 12v battery ,if it less than 8v my FZR will not start even though all the lights work etc the charger might be saying the the battery is charged but some of the cells in the battery might be goosed worth checking before you go any further
  20. HEY! a newbie who comes onto to the forum and does it the correct way, drewps will be pleased welcome to the YOC

You will need a full starter clutch assembly, gears everything , it will cost you though £300 plus even if you can get new doubt it,but i have not checked look on ebay and see what turns up 2.2 litres of oil,2.5 with new filter, it should be half way up on the oil sight when the bike on a level surface
  22. FZR AL replied to Macker's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
If i am not mistaken it is a early one i think, but need more piccys to be sure, its the same as mine 89/90 3he

get some brick acid and put couple of litres in give it a good swish round , depending on how bad it is will determine how long you leave it in but dont leave it too long, just keep an eye on it until you can see the rust has gone , next you need to flush this out, dont flush with water this will cause it to flash rust , get a litre of metholated spirits and pour the whole lot in this will neutralise the brick acid, keep swishing around and dont smoke !!then once you are happy with it spray some wd40 and again give it a good swish round , i have done this on many tanks and it comes up a treat
  25. sounds like carbs if it fires when you spray easy start and it fires, is there any pops or bangs when you dont use the easy start have you definatley got fuel going from the tank to the carbs
