  1. i have a dt400e and when i tore down the engine mine had the same screw.it is a cam lock screw, if you take it out, you can pull out the clutch lever without pulling the case apart.screw it in till it dead stops (clutch cable disconnected)back off the screw untill you can move the lever on the case then stop, the lever wont come out, screw it all the way out. and you can remove the lever,

    i have a 77-78 dt 400E, ant have ridden the same size bike in a yz & mx can i get the same performance out of my dt? dont they have the same engin as the other 2 for that time period of bike?

    found 2 dts 74 dt 80 and a mini enduero think its a 50 cc, the 80 is compleatly intack, the mini is only missing the back tire but it has a busted crank case.the 80 i can restore, but dont think theres much hope for the mini,,,,,, ronald

    not gowing by the title but by the plate, 11/77 would that make it a 77 or 78?

    Im still looking for help to figure out the certs on yam dt400e 19**, the plate on frame and crank case match, 1M2-111791 mfd 12/77 the date it was bought was 4/20/79 and i have first issue title and on it ses that it is a 79, if im told correctly new modles come out sept,so someone tell me if im not right "it should be a 1978"?

    Thanks paul, out of curiousity i pulled the jug.(still inspecting) there was no score marks or scratches on piston.or cylender walls.two of the top reeds was stuck, freed them up and reasembeled. added 93 oct fuel,and used amzoil dominator pemix,to tank, Kicks off first stroke,huge diffrence in power. are parts hard to find where your from? I would like to find oem fenders and side covers.and guage and headlamp assembly.i have all the oem part #s,but there like gold here.all wireing and accessories work, at the batt i have 6.5 to 7.1 .im amazed at what all works it was in a barn for god knows how long. guess ill strip it to the frame and get started, Thanks agian Ronald,

    just went and done just that paul,and got crazy oil out. so i took a tip cleaner and made sure the port on the carb was open, and it was. so on thease modles it is best to use the oil pump? and will the to much oil cause the problems i mentioned? thanks ronald

    I just bought a dt 400 77/78 unsure if the oil pump worked so i took some of my kx"s premix and gaver a drink,well it run but no power and smoked like a frate train.so wile it was running, i pulled the right hand cover of from where the pump is and it was pulsing in and out, so i pushed in on it gently.and there was a definite pressure and a resistance (pulsing) and there was oil in the tank but probly 3 oz, how can i tell if the oil is actually getting ware it needs to be? oh and it sounds like there is a marble in the top end is that normal for it to be so noisey?

    on the jug of the dt400 does the valve on the front work like the newer powerban on my kx, and how does it effect the performance?

    I seen a yellow dirt bike bye the road for sale,stopped to look at it,and on the plate it ses 12/77 as mfd.he wanted $400.00 and had the origanel title.well i had the title verafyied by the dmv, it was the first issue,the purches date was 4/20/79. on the title the year make and model, are as follows on title, vin# 1M2-111791 DT400E, year 79 but the plate on the bike ses 12/77, The plate and the case numbers match.so wouldnt that make it a 1978? OH bye the way i payed 150.00 for it!!!!! there was no gas in it not one drop.put in some 32.1 premix from my kx it back fired a few times, pulled the carb, the inside was like floor wax. cleaned it put it back on, it fired up after 4 or 5 kicks.runs smoothly but my kx100 will mop up the road with it.needs alot of work, ALOT, but i have alot of time.and found three salvage yard with a wide assortment of dt parts genaration cycle 915-443-2749 ma & paws cycle salvage 218-591-5096 moto parts llc 801-471-1964 givem a shout they may help you out, if i can figure out how to load a pic of it, youll see it
