No need to remove the covers, just undo the bolts and then give the bars a twist. they will pop out with abit of work and without damaging the covers, they only part u have to take off is the seat and the rear seat which comes off with an alan key. I took mine out last week.

Im having the same problem, only on the left side....Did the dealer get it sorted for you? I was thinking of getting new mirrors, anyone know if mirrors from an r6 will fit?
