  1. Hey mateys, been offered a "DT125" - dunno anything about it, except that it's in pieces and its had the frame repainted as it was a field bike... it'll be a mid 80s bike i would think It's a mate's dad who's got it, this guy does do good work, it'll be as described.. I'm going to see it in a few days and i'll make an assesment on how far gone it is then, but i know nothing about 2 strokes, never worked on one.. in fact it'll be the first bike i've worked on other than servicing the honduh - done plenty on cars though. Just wanted to get the thoughts of yam experts.. are they difficult to work on, DT125s? anything i need to look out for? it'll be SUPER CHEAP like a budgie on a red bull binge.. but it might be a better idea to get something complete or nearly so being that i'm new.. there's a couple of mid 80s 125 LC's i'm looking at in need of some work but also below the £500 mark.. The DT125 isnt really what i wanted, i wanted something trial bike/enduro shape but 4 stroke (like a DT50MX with a conversion), can't afford a wr125, don't have the tools for an engine conversion.. and the more i look into it (derestricting when i go for my A licence etc) the more it seems like the sensible bike for me.. and i can afford this bits of bike.. just not sure if it's going to be too much work, or need too much spending on it once it is all together... discuss.. lol.. just need a bit of advice on it really, i really fancy the project but don't really want to get into the nightmare of it being a moneypit and still never running

As a complete newbie to 2-stroke bikes, i have to ask this question, sorry for the lil hijack guys.. what's the difference between the stuff put in bikes, and the stuff i use for my Stihl FS-85 strimmer? its in everyday hard use that strimmer, can't imagine the oil is less lubricating.. my best guess ring gumming at low rpm? or something do to with the (everloving) emissions? have put a splash in a pre-mix before when experimenting with ethanol blends (<50%) in 4-strokes as ethanol isn't as lubricating as petrol.. didn't ruin anything

New to the forum (lurked for a bit) so i thought i should introduce myself. Mad scientist, mad man, general bodger.. you get the picture Currently learning bikes (at 27 ) on an inherited honduh 90, but i've always wanted a trial-ped, particularly DT50 MX's from the 80s. Just always liked them, whereas i do like.. more usual steeds, it's that bike that i've wanted since i was a kid... big wheel model? Had a project idea to make one a superb commuter type machine, but also keep its green-lane potential. I'm mechanically good, so intend to do all my own work and i'm never happy with anything which is entirely standard as the manufacturer cut-corner-built it, indeed i've decided to use the honda for now whilst I find then rebuild/custom build said DT50. Haven't got one yet, looking around for something cheap, which it has to be as i'm on a tight budget, solid frame.. not bothered too much about engine or incidental part condition as long as it's cheap and is a solid rolling (or nearly so) frame. So if anyone knows where i can get such a machine, let me know I'm in Sheffield, Yorkshire and am slightly.. eccentric.. bear with me my mind moves in strange waves but i get there in the end... and if i say anything offensive to you, unless it was an obvious direct insult ie "you're a..." ignore it, i have a habit of innocently putting my foot in it.. lol
