  1. Cant go wrong with an ac10. But you really dont want to be riding more than 15% tarmac on these sorts of tyres.
  2. Standard bars are invariably made of toffee. If youre going to throw it down a lane renthals are good money spent.
  3. Absolutely gutted for you Mike. Id be gutted, and I haven't put in a third of the work you have. I really hope you get it back. And the fleas of a thousand camels infest the arse of the scrum that took it.
  4. Kouba link may do a cheaper option. Failing that learn to crash gracefully! I ride a dt that is akin to a kids bike in size, also I.ride a ttr250. I cant touch the floor on it. If you fall over on the trails you will inevitably have one leg on the floor. It will seem like second nature once youre used to the change.
  5. I still maintain that 98 Ron us better for my old dt. It is prone to detonation with premium. It may be luck, but I have only seized my bike/ had over heating problems on supermarket fuel. Ethanol can also potentially lean the mixture too.
  6. Avoid supermarket fuel, as they dont openly advertise the ethanol content. Which can be lethal in older engines, particularly air cooled two strokes. It really depends on youre riding style and bike. Some fuels have better additives in. For the little I use my DT, I stick with super, its not much to filla 1.5 gallon tank.
  7. Aah tef, good to see you back. Wondered if you had given up. Im just starting to rebuild mine at the moment. Have you checked out the dt club? They seem a good bunch. http://yamahadtclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=recent Ed
  8. I had this problem when I had my RXS100. I tried allsorts to try and fix it so that it would do 80mph, because thats what people said it could do. I eventually phoned yamaha and they told me the best way to fix a poor top speed that I should buy one of these http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/products/motorcycles/supersport/yzf-r6.aspx Should help with your problem. Or the cheaper option is read pauls excellent sticky thread, all about speeding up a dtr.
  9. Fresh petrol? Charged battery? Cdi needs a good voltage some times. Too much choke? Try starting on 3/4 choke and as soon as it picks up push it back in nearly all the way?
  10. Fowlers may be able to help. Its suprising what they have in stock/order in.
  11. If you build your own bike you may have to have it type approved, or have an SVA, depending on how much it is your own build. In this case it may need lights to pass the approval before mot. I am unsure. But for cars to pass an SVA, they have to be absolutely spot on.
  12. No legal requirement for mirrors, and if a vehicle has no lights fitted it will pass with an advisory note saying so. Thus the bike cannot be used between dusk and dawn or in bad visibility.
  13. Where in the world are you? If youre in the UK buy a legal one. Its easier. And you dont need lights or mirrors to legal.
  14. Unless you go trail riding on a c90 or DT you wont find much lighter. Try a Drz 400, there heavy but very capable. Ive never met anyone with a bad wr. Although some say they wish they had bought a 450.
  15. I assumed that as the clutch didnt slip and bit straight away that the plates would be ok?? Or was applying my experience of cars a daft idea? Not looking forward to changing the clutch. Ill never learn, this was supposed to keep me on the lanes while the DT gotsome winter tlc!!
  16. So ive bought another, not quite as old nail. It needs a few bits doing but it was cheap. First concern is the clutch, you pull it in to select 1st no problem. But when you let it out theres no modulation, no halfway, instant engagement. Ok so with a little practice there is a way of slipping the clutch, but its still too abrupt for the slow bits off road I anticipate!! Any ideas? The clutch doesnt bind at all. Cheers in advance. Ed
  17. Id get a post 2003 450. Its much easier to start.
  18. Sorry, "jetting" JD jetting kit, fmf powerbomb exhaust, fmf header, and if you want to spend some money, some hotcams. But by that point you will be as well as big boring while youre at it. Or sell it and buy a 250 or 450. The 250's are cheap at the mo. Just dont outbid me on ebay!!!
  19. Four stroke or two stroke? If its a wr250f or 450f you can get a getting kit for about £60 which will transform the bike. As for electrics, get a manual, its your friend. Just realised you have a 125, guess its s 4 banger??
  20. look at how the tank pushes up and squashes whats left of the seat, I reckon the tank may be a tad back from standard. Also, providing you have a chassis number or engine number, you should be able to get a V5 fairly easily should you wish in the future. Id do it NOW! before they tighten the rules. It not as difficult as people make out, especially on older bikes, its easy really, the DVLA just dont like to tell you how,
  21. How often do you lube your cables? Have you had the carb apart recently ?
  22. Also Mike, hats off for your craftyness. Ive not got the patience. I like preformed things like nuts and bolts and circlips! Thats why I prefer old bikes to cars now, less bodywork!!
  23. Sorry just read first half of your post (its hard on a phone). Im probably going for the red infill as im either going white or blue. However yellow is looking good!! Do you have a link to red decals? Ive searched ebay to no avail!
  24. Well if it makes it cheaper to do a job lot, ill have a set. However, im sure clive must have bought his from somewhere? If I find them off the shelf ill let you know.
