  1. By the way measures you dont need a trailer license until your towing more than 750 kg. Or passed your test before 97. Good luck with the sale. Ebay is the DTsellers friend.
  2. whats retro about it? (apart from the price) Decent well written review.
  3. He'll be lucky Grouch, the TTR 125's are not road legal in the UK. Theyre a fairly decent teenagers dirt bike really, Good choice with the YZ125 mate. Theres a road legal one on ebay atm, I was so tempted, but I have three DT175MX's atm!
  4. If your riding 80% off road the ac10 rear is a great tyre. Its horrible on wet tarmac, and wears out very quick if you give it the beans on the road. The fronts are less good. Most people I know tend to have only a rear. Try lowering the pressure up front, it may improve things. I have a tkc80 on my DT. It's ok. I got it because it fits in the swingarm. I'd prefer something knoblier in the wet. But keep it spinning and it's not too bad. I paid £55 for my rear tkc at Stafford classic bike show. But like a lot of things, its what works best for you and your riding.
  5. Can you still do direct access if you are 21?
  6. I ve just bough one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200815290619?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 How can I test to see if the pin outs are correct? Cheers Ed
  7. Wr450's arent scary, there a good bike. But stuff riding one to work! Unless you work in the Welsh hills....
  8. Silly.me, I forgot that it wasnt on the battery. Maybe a relay from the lighting coil? Getting complicated I.know. But my.old man reckons his 400/4 is far better now he has thicker cable and less resistance from the switch gear. Hmmmm.
  9. also did you consider using relays to power said front light direct from battery?? maybe with thicker cables?
  10. Bloody hell NEO, that was quick!! Cheers mate. I assume back bulbs, instrument lights etc all fit ok, just 12v instead?
  11. Neo, can you point me in the direction of the 45w bulb? Ive searched but have drawn a blank. I am doing this conversion over xmas I think, as my yellow DT is gettin used for night rides now so needs some light! If it goes well ill do the same for my blue one. Cheers!
  12. True. Maybe a clutch holder then.you do need to take that off.
  13. You.shouldnt need much in the way of special tools, maybe a flywheel puller, but these are cheap on ebay, and I.dont know the exchange rate, but the seals should be less than £10.
  14. Also, its hard to tell how.much its smoking when youre looking forward. Hehe.
  15. Depends whats in there. Ive heard and seen allsorts in 'boxes. Two km is quite short a distance. The old dt gearboxes are quite resilient to oil starvation though, they can take alot of abuse. Does it feel lumpy through the footpegs? If not then you still have some lubrication! For the sake of a gasket, change it, making sure the surfaces are clean and even, and see how you go.
  16. Crank seals have probably gone, and you're burning it more than leaking it.
  17. So I need a bike thats long legged enough, yet I can use on the trails when I get spare time. Ive narrowed it down to drz, xt600 xr600/650, or TTR 600. TTR is dear, as can be a tidy XT. Id like an electric start so the Honda is looking slim. The drz is.much newer in design, and can be had cheap. The E model, and SM are pokier than the plain S. So I will probably go drz unless a very nice cheap xt comes along. Just my 2p.
  18. The 250r is detuned. The 250f and 450f are not. You can buy either with or without a road kit. The 250r as a supermoto makes a great commuter and is still very fun. Too pricey for me atm. If your going to be doing road miles the f is less viable. I've just sold my TTR 250 because I wasnt keen on doing my new jobs 35 mile round commute on it. (3miles motorway rest dual carriageway)
  19. Grouch, have you ridden a TTR to know its inferior?? Horses for courses, a WR450 is a cracking bike, for a days trail riding on proper trails or a days enduro racing/practice, much like a KTM300exc. The 450 isnt as lairy as its 426 predecessor, but is still a potent bike(more useable power, better spread). The service intervals and costs on these highly strung 4 stroke race bikes (because that is what they are) is a lot more than your common or garden 125, and more than the TTR or XT. What do you plan to ride most? Would a supermoto be a better bet? Dont discount the suzuki DRZ, they are more powerful than a 250, more reliable than a WR450, cheaper to run, and whilst being more novice friendly, I dont think you'll get bored as quick as you think. Ive have a TTR 250, which is great for a days trail riding, but is uninspiring on the road, my Dad has a DRZ 400, and it is as comfortable on the road as ikt is off, and its amazing the stuff he can do on it. A KTM 300exc would be a good bet if you really want a silly quick, featherlight, chuckable, fun machine. I was fortunate to swap my DT175 for a bit as a mate with the KTM fancied a go on it, like alot of things everyone should try it at least once! Having said all that, even the WR250 should be given a look, a few I know have started trail riding on them, and experienced riders love them too. Whatever you buy, if you buy sensibly you will always sell it on for what you paid, or possibly more. Buy something, try it, and sell it if you dont like it. I would see if anyone you know would let you have a go.
  20. I dont know alot, but I know yamaha engines pop up in alot of other manufacturers bikes. Like gas gas, scorpa, and probably a few more.
  21. Hasn't your caliper got an old fashioned reading too? Probably be on a yamaha spec sheet somewhere anyway.
  22. Riding through deep water is a strange sensation, not only can you not sea where the front wheel is, you think your engine has packed up, due to no noise!
  23. They will be on separate orders so hopefully wont be mixing them up. So whip the case off, take the primary gear off, and.hopefully all good? Thanks lads, hope that fixes it!
