  1. hmm thats a strange one. have you checked the earth points? could be a week contact causing the lights to be dim then on the odd occasion they get a good contact making them brighter. the only other things i can think that can cause this kinda problem (not in any order) would be a relay fault, the reg/rect, or the stator coil in the engine. best crack out the voltmeter and the manual and have a good check over.
  2. ha just saw this and thought it would get a laff !
  3. we should do a YOC comunity shed build/ride out lol
  4. iv got to build a shed, at the min im taking up the kitchen, last one i built cost me 250 quid and was 8ft by 8ft by 8ft ......went to b&q and got some 8ft by 4ft chipboard panels . safe to say it was quite good, but was destroyed a year or so ago when i moved.. now iv got a nice 16ft by 20ft patch at the top of the garden ......so gonna make a decent workshop to house my tools and projects im toying with the idea of putting some form of wood burning stove/furnace in there as i want to do a bit of aluminum casting, should make it nice and toasty during the winter plus it will keep the misses happy as the bike wont be in the kitchen. but in answer to your question bigger IS better!
  5. ahh yeah i forgot about them , i might have to go and have a look are they still up by john cars? im guessin ur a regular at matlock and mfn then
  6. hi all im after a solo seat for the xvs bobber, it needs to be small and comfy but the only place i know where to look is e-bay any recommendations? or ideas? i could make one but it would take too long so if i can find one at a good price it would save me some time. cheers.

    WOO HOO!

    1. iv got commitments (4 of them including the misses), would be good goin to the ace cafe and defo something that i want to do but family comes 1st 2. it might not be as fast as the ninja but it looks better plus it gives ppl time to stare at it when ur not doin 70+ mph 3. iv got a project sat outside doing nowt.... my sachs roadster.....would go well with a DT 125 engine and be a nice project.

well the engine is round about the same spec as the xvs (think there is 2 nm more torque ) but its designed to be thrashed rather than cruise, plus the polished head, free flow exhaust, and custom filter will help a little just wait till i stick a 150 big bore kit on there but yeah im still tryin to persuade my m8s to come down to the ace but there not sure plus the misses didnt like the idea lol

um yeah im not gonna risk loosing control just to show you a vid but put it this way the sprocket is at a 4 to 1 ratio and the head has been polished so it accelerates like a beast. i cant test it properly as its not road legal and im not risking having it taken off me. but im gonna get a sprocket made to sort out the ratio. im looking at getting 80mph top end but think il only get 70. just think its like an original xvs 125 but a hell of allot lighter!
  10. any risers from ebay should do it (but you need to drill the bushes in the yoke), but im not sure about the extension ones (the ones that slot into the original with longer bolts) but if your putting straight bars on you need about 5 inch high risers, have a look in the general section for my topic (WOO HOO) there are some good pics of the 4.5 inch ones iv got on mine but the choke lever makes contact with the top of the tank. so say 5 inch risers with straight bars would give you the clearance
  11. fair dues m8 guess il save it for my next project
  12. for an old bird.....id still do her

yeah it sounds like an animal with the can off but think id get pulled for noise polution. might ride round with the can in a backpack just incase its wierd to ride cause its so low and your legs go so far forward, but i need to sort out the sprocket ratio as the front tire is lifting off the floor at about 5k revs
  14. iv got a sachs roadster 125, all it will need is a new engine, clutch or brake lever (not sure which one it is) and a paint job, i just got it mot'd and taxed when the head blew. i had a play and fooked up the timing which resulted in a broken valve, but its in pretty good nick, you could fit a 250 engine in there at a push as the original engine is a 125 xv virago V2. would make a nice project but im in the middle of building my bobber so its sat there doing nowt for now. im willing to let it go for 300 as it is.

hmmm a camping trip sounds good . but let me get the bike finished 1st m8 there is still quite allot to do yet. iv got most of the wiring done....all apart from the lights... so im gonna see if it starts and goes tonight, then get cracking on the lights and finish the loom up for tomoz then tomoz i can sort the seat out and give it a blast up the road. at the end of the month im sortin out the fenders, seat, and rear lights, then all iv got to do is figure out what i need to do with the DVLA to get it back on the road. im hoping all i have to do is register it with the new engine and sort the numbers out but im not sure till i give them a ring.....then all that needs doin is an mot tax and insurance once its on the road i can do the paint job bit by bit. im seriously thinking of getting a proper paint job done on the tank and fenders though..... we will soon see

nah m8 it has to have L plates on.....its the law!....if they snap off whilst im riding....well thats a diferant matter! and was thinkin of stoppin ova night as its a bit too much to do it in a day! works out about 4-5 hour drive one way. when it gets closer to the time il give ya a bell and then sort out a cheep b&b or room lol
  19. no m8 the rear light (not the indicators) has 3 cables (they all do) one red one black and one yellow the black one is the earth (both red and yellow positive use it as an earth) the switch is a link from a positive (from somewhere) to the positive yellow on the light when you connect the switch and complete the circuit it goes :- positive wire to switch to yellow wire to light to earth. im not sure if you need to weir it through a relay though, instead of running it straight to 12v you could just hook it to a 12v positive Wier but you might burn out the switch (if it needs a relay) the only way it will work the way drewpy sais is if there are 2 earth wires comming out from the light (red is posative and black and yellow are earth)
  20. as far as i know the yellow wire is the positive to the stop light (as opposed to the tail light which comes on with the light switch) each switch (either on the bars or foot) connects one end to a positive (either direct or via the relay) and the other end to the yellow cable. so when either switch is on it makes the brake light come on.

cheers barky and chris well what you see is round about what the end product is gonna look like, oh and thanks OG for that pic! its inspired me i was going to put a round battery box under the seat kinda like a fake oil tank, but since iv seen that pic iv decided to hide the battery under the swing arm in a nice little black box,
