  1. hi im confused about the restriction of the c.b.t dus it restrict me to 125cc or is it under 33bhp? (e.g a 170cc 22bhp engine.) im building a custom chopper but want to be able to ride it on a cbt till i can afford to take the direct access course. cheers .Paul.
  2. could be owt electrical just check ur connections to see if there loose then probs see about getting a new battery even if u dont need it yet its always a good idea to have a spare .
  3. hi i might b a bit late here but iv got an xvs 125 thats broke il do u the ignition barrel with 2 keys and the side panel (the one u need the key for ) for 70 quid if ur interested email me [email protected] cheers . paul.
  4. iv got a xvs dragstar 125 and the engine blew up if ur interested in parts il do u a good deal it was only 4 years old when it blew and its an 04 plate get in touch via email if ur interested [email protected] chears . Paul .
  5. hi just a quick question can u put xvs engine parts on an xv engine?? by parts i mean startor motor, valves, cam chains, pistons, piston rings, gears, heads, cylinders, carbs. will they fit?
  6. yeah ul not get alot but itl b a bit better up hill, mine used to do 50mph standard in 4th but sounded like it was screaming in pain lol. but it was a great ride i loved it .
  7. i had exactly the same problem!! only differance is i didnt notice it till me engine went pop causing the washers between the con rods to disintergrate and giving a conrod about 2mm of free play (not good!) i say drain the diluted oil, top up with fresh, run for 30 min then drain (just to make sure) might want to clean or replace ur oil filter. top up with fresh oil check the fuel tap (see if it leaks) then strip the carb down and check the float height and valve, cause if fuel is getting in when u dont want it to ur gonna loose out on a bit of dosh and at £1.10 a litre down my way every drop counts. hope this helps .
  8. only thing i can think of it put a bigger jet in it and change the sprocket size then ul get more torque (not allot but it helps) and u can get more acceleration/ more top speed depending on how many teeth are on the sprocket. but do me a flavor make sure u keep an eye on the oil cause mine blew up and i now have a pile of bits ( dealer didnt service it properly and forgot to change the oil )
  9. hello iv got a sachs roadster which uses a virago xv125 engine now the problem is it just wont start! iv put a new battery in it and air filter and its got a new exhaust. iv cleaned and replaced all the corroded electrics so their practically brand new. me plugs are fine and the carb is spotless. and there is no problem with me starter motor. when i turn the key it will just go round till the battery dies (even with choke!) i have to bump it to get it started but it starts up 1st time with the bump it runs perfectly and drives as normal i can start it up when the engine is warm but after 5 min of it not running i have to bump it to get it started again. iv got a sneaky suspicion that iv got a compression problem so i put some oil in the spark plug hole and then tried to start it. still had to bump it i think it can b 1 of 3 things piston rings, head gaskets or me valves can anyone point me in a direction? or if im wrong tell me what to try next? plus i need to know whats involved with taking the heads off to replace the gaskets if anyone can point me to a writeup id be great full cheers.   11. yeah its a sachs roadster (german ) 125 that uses the virago v twin single carb engine. and as for the compression check i dont have the funds to get one done, but as iv said b4 its only stoped starting since iv put that new air filter on and re jetted the carb, it works lovely when the engine is running and i can get 70 out of it on a straight but its just this starting problem thats holding it back. once iv got that sorted im going to hack it to pieces and chop the back end off to make it into a custom fighter. should shed a bit of wheight too.

  13. hi when i removed the carb i gave it a dam good clean and replaced the choke cable, iv checked the choke and it works better than it did when i 1st got the bike, but as iv said surley the plugs should be smotherd in fuel when u try to start it with the choke but mine are dry as a bone iv done a plug chop and all seams fine, the mixture is as near to spot on as i can get. so im stumped it dont take alot to bump it normaly i push in the startor switch for about 15 seconds then push it in second for about 9 steps then dump the clutch and it starts. but im just thinking of when the winter comes around cause i use it in all weathers i dont fancy trying to bump it in the snow! and yes its just the 1 carb thats shared between the 2 cylinders
  14. what i did with mine (xvs dragstar 125) 1st 100 miles : didnt go over 35mph and didnt rev high oil change 100 to 400miles: pushed it to 40mph with low revs oil change 400 to 1000 miles : went a maximum of 55mph pushind the revs a bit harder (only a litle) service 1000 to 1200 miles: thrashed it to 65 then cruised in 5th gear 1200 to 1300 miles: found a big long hill and went down it a few times pushing the bike 3mph at a time to a total of 75 1300 to 1350 miles: went down the hill as fast as i could revving each gear as high as i could to a total of 80mph service and happy riding. i got a maximum of 70mph on a straight with a tiny bit of breeze which is brill for such a bulky bike. hope this helps.
  15. right iv put in a smaller pilot jet and still no luck, any1 know how to set or change the ignition timing?
  16. ta thats helps a bit, might try to ajust the fuel settings when starting up .
  17. just to let u know its a 4 stroke and because the air filter is a performance one the original carb setup wont work (thats why i had to re jet the carb) plus if it did start up, the mixture would be sooooo lean it would kill the engine i was wondering is there a way to tell if the mix is right when trying to start the bike? e.g when the choke is on and u try to start withought the ht lead connected, then when u check the plug it should b caped in fuel???
  18. iv got a volt meter and checked each cell 1 by 1 and they all read 2 volts then checked the overall voltage which was 12, i then put me battery charger/conditioner on it over night . its helped but it still wont fire up when standing but as iv said b4 after a 5 min drive it will start up without pushing it, but if it is off for longer than 10 min i have to push it again. iv set the mixture screw so the bike runs lovely with good acceleration and top speed and iv set the tick over screw so it just ticks over nicely i got this bike about 6 months ago and it started and ran fine, i could start it up 1st time every time, then when i couldn't get an air filter for it i had to put a performance one on it , then re jet the carb then put a new exhaust on and since iv done that it wont start without pushing

  21. they say it increases acceleration by about 4 or 5 mph but ur top speed will drop and ul be revving the engine to its limits to hit 60 i dont know where to get a smaller front sproket but if you google custom rear sprockets u can get any size you want for a good price

  23. yeah it starts and runs perfect when bumped i have noticed that after 5 min of holding the startor switch the battery is about dead so might have something to do with that ... but what i have found is that when i try to start it with the choke, then have a look at the sparkplugs there isnt any fuel on them .....surely it should flood the engine and plaster the sparkplugs in fuel? the choke works perfect. note iv put a 95 main jet (from 75) and a 17.5 pilot jet ( from 12.5) so im confused as to what the problem is. as to the ignition timing iv not touched the cdi just the carb and air filter so that should be ok shouldnt it? i cant take it to a dealer cause i dont fancy being mugged .
