  1. hey guys how are you ihave a dt 175e i was just trying to find out how to redard the timeing to spec 1.8mmBTDC i under stand how to line the piston i can do that easyly i plan to use a flat piece of steel across the bore with the head removed and a feeler gauge, but what els is involved? when i did the crank seal on the left i lined the magneto base plate up with the two line marks on the uper right hand side and thought nothing more of it until i came across some thing i read in a forum recently, spinning the base plate is this how you alter the timeing if so is it just a case of lineing up the piston to spec then alinging the base plate up with the markers am i on the right track or not any help is allways apreciated thanks guys bye (yamaha owners club member "steptoe1111")
  2. g'day paul shaun here how are you i got my rings the other day and put em on thismorning i endid up polishing the ports plus took a couple of thou of the head and honed the bore by hand so the new rings will bed in all good. first start i had to use a bit of crc to get her going it blew smoke for about 10 mins or so i just played with throtle a bit first ride BLEW ME AWAY was still a bit smokey but after about 15 min of tearing round the street the smoke cleard up alot and just a slight tug on the bars in high second will get the weel up ive got aprox 20%more power im verry pleased with the out come it all came together very well and your advice and imfo was extremly helpfull thanks heaps mate ps. just one last thing after i finished rideing a had a fiddle to make sure there was no leaks or any thing abnormal and the only thing i noticed was there is a tiny amound of air being blown out the carb at very low compresion i could tell i could see i litle bit of soke coming out of the carb throut when i turnd it over lightly by hand after just cuting the motor and i know its the reeds is this normal should they leek a litle bit at verry low comp. or not at all should they close fully and seal the chamber regardless of the compreshion or some times dose it take a little bit of air preasure to seel the reeds??????

  4. g'day mate how are you the bike sais on the meter that its done 12600kms its been a few years since i fixed the seized piston i know its the original 50mm piston it has a 50 stampted on the top so i asume its stil got the same rings it dose have a bit of a rattle maybe big end? after reading your reply i stuk a compreshion gage in the plug hole just a rubber ended one and kicked it over as hard as i could im getting 800kpa out of it dose this sound average? the bike has a bit of go acualy it goes pretty hard! reading the specs on the dt175 they recon the front will lift bewtween 2nd and 3rd at full poower it wont do that you acualy have to reef the bars up hard in high 1st or verry high second keeping in mind the motors 30 years old but there all similer ive tried difrent sprokets ratios curently i find the best is 14 on the front 44 on the rear i find they give it good high speed 90kmh and still has plenty down low anyway would a hone and anew set of standard rings give me a bit more compreshion than what im getting and if ther is a bit of piston rattle would the new rings help even it out a bit basicly would new rings help make it better than what it is already or am i just wasting my time in therory it make sense to me new rings beter compershion equals more power any knowlegde is greatly apreciated thanks shaun
  5. thanks heaps guys i apreciate your coments it dident look as good as this when i got it i think it had been left out for years dry thats why the piston was stuck it looked like it only worth a hundred bucks here in austrailia id only get maybe a thousand bucks for it but a couldent bear to part with it even after 6 weeks or so in storage it starts first kick but ive got an idle back problem will a dirty idle jet make it hard to get a good idle speed after about an hour or so of good rideing it is posible to get an idle around 500 rpm it seems to get better the longer its ridden i havent bougth carb cleaner yet ive only useb a bit of unleded petrol but i dont think i removed and cleand the idle jet i dident even know you could until i read some post's on this forum all i did was the main needle jet but i will give it a bit more atention soon any way thanks agian guys "GO DT'S"
  6. hey guys just wondering if any one knows where the vac hoses go on a dt 175 "77" mod its got the mono shock with a mikuni carb modle 2h500 there is 2 vac hose conections on the carb and three vac conections on the gear box one on the carb will be for the petrol tap its blocked off caus i got a manual tap what are the three on the gear box for one is a breather i know that what are the other two any help would be greatly apreciated thanks guys p.s got this little rripper for a hundred bucks from the local tip it had a stuck piston nothing a bit of wood en a mallot coultent fix pluss some paint and im blown out at how well it goes it bloody flys dt's are fully sick its the best little dirt bike ive ever had and not meaning to gloat but i think its the best hundred dollar tip job ive seen on the net yet
  7. hey guys can i got a 77 dt 175 mx from the tip for a hundred bucs and been working on it for a wile when i got it the piston was seized cause it had been left dry for years how anybody could let that hapen to a great litle bike is beyond me but was wondering can i replace the piston rings without reboreing and replaceing the piston can i just slap em on and away i go basicly can i get away with it ???? and one more thing im finding it hard to maintain an even idle there are no itake or exust leaks garenteed it seems like im for ever playing with the idle scweew i have already filed off the impreshion the scweew leaves on the carbi piston and cleand the tip off the scweew up pluss ive totaly cleand up the carbi aswell if theres something wrong with the idle jet will make it dificult to hold an idle between 500- 1300 i can get an idle at 500 revs after its been riden for a good hour or so but when you back off the gas after a good rev in neutral it will drop to 12-1300 revs run there for 5 secons or so the slowly drop to 500 revs but it wont drop and keep the same idle rev all the time its either to fast or to slow any imfo or knowledge any one has would be very greatly apreciated thanks heaps ps. whats the best mix ratio for the 2 stroke im running pre mix no oil pump
