dtr 125
You lift the choke for on and push it back down for off. When the smoke clears and the bike is warm you can take the choke off. And yes some smoke is normal as long as it isn't so thick the bike and everything for 20ft disappears .

dtr 125 plastics
The plastics from any years between 1989-2003 will fit your bike. Have you tried a Yamaha dealer as they are still available new? http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?PageiD=20&modelID=9134 http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?PageiD=19&modelID=9134 http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?PageiD=36&modelID=9134 DO NOT believe the prices from the links above, they are hugely exaggerated, there was a thread not long ago and iirc someone got a full set of plastics for around £150 new from Yamaha. Also there is a guy from Portugal on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-REAR-FENDER-MUDGUARD-YAMAHA-DTR-125-DTR125-DT-R-/400166219225?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5d2bc3edd9 and he does plastics even cheaper, if he hasn't got what you want, send him a message and i'm sure he will help you out. Best to compare prices from him and Yamaha imo. Vez.

yamaha dtr
Hi Anley, Welcome to the forum . As OldGit says, any good quality 2-stroke oil is good, there isn't really a best so to speak, its a personal choice depending on what/how you use the bike. My preference is silkolene fully synthetic http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-811-silkolene-pro-2-sx-the-ultimate-full-synthetic-2-stroke-off-road-racing-engine-oil.aspx (expensive and some would say a waste in a road going bike, as its designed for competition riding). Or Semi synthetic http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-843-silkolene-super-2-injector-semi-synthetic-2-stroke-engine-oil-for-motorcycles.aspx . works just fine, as do most other good quality 2-stroke. As for mixing it, well if you knew what oil was in there it would be easy to answer ( Castor based, synthetic etc). But at a guess its the oil that came with the bike, so its probably best to run the tank as low as you can(feel comfortable with) and then drain the tank of the last little bit before you refill with the new. ( the oil warning light will be on for days though). HTH Vez.

You may find you get some responses if you introduce yourself fin the bar section of the forum. Read this thread if you are wondering why http://www.yamahaclub.com/forums/topic/22778-am-i-turning-into-a-grumpy-old-bastrd/page__p__124708__hl__grumpy__fromsearch__1#entry124708

Knocked off - again
Probably wasting your time with a claim, unless you have witnesses that is. It will be a case of his and her word against yours, even if he was at fault he will probably deny it, who wants increased premiums after-all. I second the idea of going and talking with him. Vez. Edit: I read somewhere the most dangerous part of any journey is the last 10% before you get home.(something like that, can't remember exactly)

DT125X Modifications
You haven't looked everywhere as i have answered this question before on this forum. No the seat won't fit, too short and the fixing/mountings are in the wrong place. Could one be made to fit, yes possibly, but it wouldn't be easy or cheap and would probably require the plastics and tank to be fitted from a DTRE/DTX which would require modding also. http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?ModelID=9058&pageID=25 at £145 for a seat i can think of better mods to spend money on. It would probably be an easier fix to strip and old DTR seat and shape it to look like a DTRE/DTX seat then recover it. Just a thought.

2006 DTR125 not starting normally
I used to do the same, but after being hauled out of class at college and told to take my bike off the premises because there was fuel covering the car-park, i now do. Damn sticky floats.

will yz parts fit a dt?
This question was already asked not long ago. From what i hear, the mud-guards can be made to fit, possibly the carb, again with some modding. But the forks i don't know for sure, if it is possible, it will mean changing the forks, fork yokes(top and bottom) probably the bearings and bearing races too, front wheel, brake etc.. Just off that, it would mean you would loose the steering lock from your bike and probably be overly expensive for the small benefits reaped by fitting upside down forks. Not to mention that YZ forks are designed for off-road and thus would give a decrease in handling on-road. There are probably better bikes to take some forks from.

Fouled Plugs on Lanza DT 230
that won't help with tuning at all. Maybe try to talk with someone more local to you who is used to working with that kind of fuel. Try and adjust the suspension to see if that helps, if indeed it is the same as the DTR's that is. How tall are you? I figure the Lanza is high like the DTR, so maybe it has been lowered by a previous owner (i.e. longer linkage fitted), I don't think the Japanese are known for being a nation of tall people, so its possible it has. If it has then sourcing a standard linkage may be an answer. Is there not a local engineering company that can make you a linkage if needed? They are quite simple to make. There is also the expensive option of buying a longer rear shock if adjustment etc. doesn't do it.

Horses on the road.
There was a time when horse shit was scooped up by the nearest gardener for their roses. And i wonder, would you be as annoyed if it was a Mcdonalds burger box/pizza box/broken bear bottle/can etc.? A few years ago a mate of mine had a 100cc scooter and managed to lock the back brake up on a squashed drinks can, he slid for about 20' with the can still under the back wheel before coming off and trashing his scoot, he was only going about 10-15 mph at the time. Point is, there are many obstacles on the road that need to be avoided. I think you should consider yourself lucky you didn't come off and put it down to experience gained and learn from it for next time.

Fouled Plugs on Lanza DT 230
Stiffening the rear spring wont help much imo, but you can adjust the DTR by the locking nut on the rear shock so maybe the lanza is the same. To stiffen the spring you would tighten it, but to make it higher you would need to slacken it off, which will make the rear spring softer. Or the other way to raise the back end would be to buy or make some shorter suspension linkage bars.

Fouled Plugs on Lanza DT 230

Fouled Plugs on Lanza DT 230
Maybe the Lanza had the newer plastics before the DTR, like i said I'm speculating as my knowledge about the Lanza is limited at best.

Fouled Plugs on Lanza DT 230
Have you got a DT230 by any chance Manual Pat ? For the DT125R that should be 1 and a 1/4 turns out btw. I think the air filter condition could contribute towards fouled plug. Less air getting through would mean a rich mixture( which means rich in petrol and 2-stroke). Also with it being an import the bike may have been tuned to suit Japans environment. If it was me, i would replace the filter give the bike an overall service then tune it to suit the drier environment of Tanzania.

Fouled Plugs on Lanza DT 230
You wont get the filter holder so may want to replace the sponge that has rotted with something to give a good seal. Also i would be surprised if the bike is a 96 with the styling on the plastics, that style didn't come in on the DTR until 2004, But i'm speculating. Nice bike And welcome to the forums btw.

Looking at the picture of your air filter and the abuse the sand gives it, it may be wise to buy 2

Fouled Plugs on Lanza DT 230
I have a feeling that the DTR125 air filter may fit. Can you upload a picture of the current filter? Or you could try emailing a Yamaha dealer in a different country and explaining your situation. EDIT: http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Yamaha/DT_230_4TP1_2_Lanza/97-98/picture/Air_Filter looks the same a the DTR at first look. maybe try and email them and see if they will send you one.
