Thanks a lot i finally got it out, I had one other question though, Could use one of those AGM batteries on a 79 xs 400 it says it can be used on the 1980 so i figure it could but i just wanted to check before i spent the money.

Hey again I have been trying to get the motor out of the frame, i follow the service manual on what needed to come off before i removed it. Now i cant seem to pull it out is there any chance that there may be a hidden bolt or two that could be still holding the motor on?

I am rebuilding my bs34 carbs and i am trying to get the pilot jet and my manual says to use a tapered rod to remove it but i don't understand what they mean by doing that. I would think if you push to hard then you would just push it in harder. If anyone has some suggestions that would be great.

I was looking at my friendly neighbor hood junk yard and found a left hand switch control for a 82 xs 400 j seca that has a choke button on it. My main question is if i could possibility make that work on my 79 xs400f. if anyone has any idea if it would work before i buy it please give me your input. Thanks! Warkilt

Ah I guess because it starts to rumble but i am kind of new to this so maybe it isn't about to start at all.

Ah it sounds like probably around 3 or 4 rpm when it is about to start. I also was going to just use the kick start but it didn't even remotely turn over when i tired it but maybe i am not kicking fast enough. also i did find a few shorts in the wiring harness so maybe when i fix those the problem will be solved thanks again Connor

Hey I just bought a 79 xs 400, the person I bought it from said it needed the carbs clean so I did that. When I tried to start it the fuses got really hot and then burned out. I figured that they might be bad so I replaced them tried to start it again and then they start to smoke and burned out. Does anyone know what might be the problem? A friend told me to pull the harness and check for corrosion. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Hi, i just purchased a yamaha xs 400 and i went to sears and got a battery. I began to fill it then i seemed to overfill it so acid began to spill all over. Is there anyway to still used the battery or do i have to go buy a new one Thank!
