dt250Man

I have a 1977 DT 125 frame and I was thinking of making it into a bobber style dirt bike, however, I want to upgrade it to a bigger motor. I figure the 125 won't be able to make much power. So I'm wondering what other motors would fit on the frame, maybe a XS 650 or something along those lines? any help would be great, thanks for any help guys!

Ok i got some time to work on the bike and really got nothing done. I tried push starting the bike it turned on but was very faint and everytime i rolled the throttle back nothing, than it soon died i dont know what might be wrong with the bike. After i got the headlight fixed it wont start anymore. would a battery cause these problems? I keep getting it charged but they dont know how to test it and i dont have a muti meter. Any help would be great!!!

ill check that amps, But the thing is it will die after a coulple seconds of it been in nuetral than wont start back up again unelss i push start it. So i think my starter might be giving out since its not real stiff like my dt250 is but thats beyond the point of why its stalling out. But before i did the head light it ran pretty perfect.

Yeah im sure its the petcock cause when i un hook it from the carb it keeps pouring gas out untill the tank is empty. ill check all the above.

I did and my battery was dead but i charged it and it held a full charge but the spark was not that strong i do know my petcock is messed it keeps leaking gas so i have it off the bike cause it poors the whole tank out so maybe my plugs are fouled? any other things?

If it aint one thing its another!. Now that i got my headlight fixed my bike wont start It stalled out on me when i was driving and now it wont start back up, unless i push start it but soon after it will die again. Any help on what it might be? Would the Idle screws make it not start up? Oh yeah i would pull the plug to check spark and im really not getting any spark i also found out my electric start relay isnt there. So could it be my coils went bad? Both of them at the same time?

I think i just need a new one. I get a steady stream of fuel with it in the on or res spot. I tore it down i everything looked good but it still drips gas. The only thing i can see wrong with it is the oring on the vacum side is kinda tore up.

Would there be any harm into replacing the petcock from my 81xs400 to one that is just a on off kind? thinking it might make things alittle easier.

Thanks for the help Well i replaced the whole fuse thing with a inline fuse and still no luck, One thing i did notice is that the High beam light doesnt come on with i flip the switch up. So im wanting to find this diode and try and replace it. SO IF ANYONE HAS A PIC OR CAN TELL ME WHERE ITS AT PLEASE HELP ME OUT. Thanks to everyone with there help so far.

the fuse box under the seat, on the farthest right hand side of the bike, the clip that holds the fuse is broken(as seen in the picture) ; what is the fuse for? and what color is the headlight relay?

This may sound kinda dumb but where is the diode?

These are the only relay's i could find, the black one I'm almost certain is the flasher relay. is the silver one a headlight relay? This is the fuse box underneath the seat, one of the fuse's is broken and just sits there; is that a headlight fuse or something?

Yeah i know where the vaccum line thing is on the petcock but where does it hook up to?

The only on off switch i have on my bike is to turn the bike on and than the kill switch. I checked and everything is plugged in so thats why i lead to belive my fuse might be blown

Hey all. I just bought my second bike which is a xs400 when i went to get it the head light worked only when the bike was on all the other lights still worked blinkers everything with just the key turned to on. But once the guy came and dropped off the bike the head light doesnt work at all. I thought maybe he banged it and it went out. But i just put a new bulb in and still nothing can anyone tell me where the headlight fuse might be? or what they might think made the light not work.

CAn anyone show me where the Vaccum line for the petcock goes i belive thats why im having a bad idle cause there is no line hooked up to the back of the petcock so i dont know where it hooks up to get pressure. Any help would be great oh yeah its a 81 xs400 If that matters.

I'm thinking about getting a bike more than likely and R6, but i was looking around for insurance rates and the lowest I could find was around $1100 a MONTH! is it just me or is that insane? I mean i know i'm a 20 year old single guy, but i've taken drivers safety classes for cars and bikes and never been in an accident. So my question is who are you guys insured with and what are your rates?

if i hold the choke it works fine throttle response is fast.but i let go of the choke and roll it than it bogs down....

UPDATE: cylinder has been bored .50 new piston and rings bought and installed new gaskets all around. The bike starts up right away now, sounds like a jaguar from hell too! but now when I roll the throttle it dies out....it idles perfect and everything just when its given gas it stall. could it be because its not giving enough gas to the motor since its been bored? I'm thinking it has something to do with the carb

i took the cylinder and piston off, cleaned it up and noticed on closer inspections the piston did have a bunch of little holes and the walls were scratched a little. I think it can just be rehoned; does anyone know if a 78 std piston would fit in the 79 cylinder?
