  1. Always start wuth the cheapest possible remedys first New plugs Check plugs are sparking New air filter Check the rubber y shaped inlet connector to the carbs, youll find it just underneath the tank. If its cracked or split, the bike wont run right.
  2. Keep calm, focus, life savers Bloody good luck, have a good day
  3. By all means, buy yourself a nice Dragstar 125, genrally good build quality, reliable, spares available, easy to customise, easy to service, if thats the cruiser style of bike you want Take the CBT on the schools bike, not yours. Insist on a 125cc bike, not a scooter, for the CBT CBT is nothing like Direct Access Pass CBT, ride draggie lots for 6 to 9 months (at least) and build up your MOTORCYCLING riding skills, anticipation, perception etc. In that time, if you have gained sufficient confidence in your own ability, put in for direct access, the training school will advise on the amount of training that you will require. Its unlikely that you will require none. Jump in Leatherat

    Yamaha Dragstar

Errr, not sure what that is, but the drain plug is most definitely underneath the bike.

  6. Remove one of each of the bolts that currently occupy the fixing points for the bars. Measure as accurately as you can the outside diamerter of the thread on the bolts. It is likely to be either 8mm, 10mm or 12mm diameter. Measure the length from the underneath of the bolt head to the end of the thread, then add on the thickness of the lug on the bars where said bolts pass through the holes, plus another 4mm on each for washers Find your nearest fastener supplier in yellow pages. Ask him for whatever measurements you have noted down in stainless steel, plus one flat washer and one spring washer for each bolt If youre not sure about the outside diameter of the bolts, what size spanner fits them? An 8mm bolt takes a 13mm af spanner, a 10mm bolt takes a 17mm spanner, and a 12mm bolt takes a19mm spanner
  7. No, the bike has to be level when checking oil level and yes, overfilling can cause damage to the engine
  8. Jeez, I'm getting worried
  9. Nice looking, low mileage XV750 for sale at Roy Jervis The Bike Shop, Ripley, Derbyshire, if youre buying
  10. Im not familiar with the bike, but generally the difference for the oils is that one is recommended for air temperatures of consistenetly above 15 degrees C, for example, and the other is for temperatures consistenly below that mark. It should give some indication of that in the owners manual. Not sure if the bike has a wet clutch or not, ie runs in the oil, so you must have the right type, or you may have clutch problems Id be inclined to go to your nearest reputable parts supplier and tell him you want engine oil, drain plug o ring, and oil filter for the bike, tell him bike type and year. Establish a good relationship, these people have years of knowledge to draw on. Get the engine hot before you drain, make sure the bike is level when draining and when you refill, and dont overfill. Go for a short run, then check for leaks, level the bike again and check the level, top up as reqd, but dont overfill, but dont overfill, but dont overfill. By the way, dont overfill Good luck, and shout up if you hit snags
  11. I'd say training, no doubt there are others who will say otherwise. Training is focused on getting you through the test, and nothing else.
  12. Dont know about 0-60, but a 1/4 mile from a standing start is 13.7secs according to Haynes, terminal speed after a 1/4 mile 95.5mph, Haynes again
  13. Spring clips can be re-used provided there not mangled while being removed. Take the chain off to clean it, its the best way of washing the grit and shite out from between the pins and rollers At the end of the day, its about how clean a chain you want. If you spend a few hours cleaning and polishing, you may as well have the chain off rather than re-oil on top of shite As someone said earlier, its a can of worms Each to his own
  14. Fester for a very short while Then breeeeaaaathe deep, get up, and take it again, youve done all the hard work twice, claim your place on the roads with the rest of us
  15. No need to buy a Haynes yet, there should be a maintenance list in your owners handbook, check it out or get one. Dont spend money on fancy dan chain cleaners, buy some parrafin, take the chain off and wash it in that, hang it up to dry, when dry spray it the sticky oil type chain lube (I use Silkolene), refit and tension chain, check rear brake. Engine oil is full of contaminants. When youve been riding longer, you will become more prepared and comfortable to take on more complictaed maintenance works and adjustments, thats the time to buy the Haynes
  16. Observations Relaxed arms Enough speed through the curve so you dont have to gun too much coming out of it Good luck, youve done it once save for a minor, you can do it agian
  17. I have. Hot water flowing through 4 pipes into a bigger pipe and mixing with cold water? I think I get the meaning, but whats the drawing?
  18. In typically cautious fashion, my view is be cautious. Are you able to ride said 250 legally? You currently have a working bike, a failed project may leave you without one at all. Parts may be difficult to come by (in good order) Spend any funds available for conversion on a 250 restoration job, then have 2 bikes of flog the 125 to recoup cash. In any case, best of luck with it, let us know how you progress
  19. Taking photos etc is the right way to do a job if youre not familiar with it, well done. Do you have the owners manual, it tells you how to set the chain tension, 30mm to 40mm from top to bottom of the movement in the centre of the bottom chain run, bike in neutral, upright, and off the floor. Use the lines on the inner of the rear axle slots to align the rear wheel up, dont forget to adjust the rear brake afterwards as this will alter as you adjust the chain. Check that the chain is not rubbing on the plastic guard on the top run. I cant think of anything that would catch at the front sprocket as theres plenty of room there for it to spin. Double check that you have the little spring connector for the chain on the right way around, the round end needs to be pointing in the direction of travel. Let us know how you get on, you can always post photos.
  20. My view is, try to stay the right side of the law. Shame you bought the bike first, there are some 250s that are highly capable performers at 33 bhp that you could have bought and enjoyed legally.
  21. 80mph flat out, for 2 minutes before bits start falling off
  22. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder What happened to the Vmax then?
  23. Yuo could try places like Wemoto, but even if they were able to supply, i reckon the price will be similar. Try bike breakers, and ebay
