i know its not a yam,but it still deserves a look.my 1978 suzuki rm 50,had it nearly 20 years, near enough stock, just trying very unsuccesfully to get a seat cover, just one of my shed full of bikes, hope someone likes it,in the process of a good resto, not much needed
  9. you could try a speedo drive from something with a 17in wheel, dont know if the gearing will be in speedo or drive, could you try one from sm version.alternatively there are things called speedo healers i believe, alter ratio to speedo from drive. cheers mark.

ian i have a few from a 175,there are two types, different amount of wires,if you get stuck pm me and we can see what we can do cheers mark.
  12. just a quick heads up in case this comes back on ebay, won a 2005 dtr125x sm on ebay, seller bennettsenior10,photos made it look really tidy, description a couple of minor faults, kick start conversion, rear indicators dont work,REALLITY,earlier kickstart motor fitted, wrong wiring loom and butchered, boost bottle missing, power valve not working, frame hand painted, panels scruffy, after market clocks fitted that dont switch off, fuse fitted in wiring,so you can knock power off, stopped looking after that,£50 in fuel,400 mile round trip, ten hours later, well p-ssed off, just AVOID like the plaque.
  13. have you tried running it with the petrol cap off,it may have a blocked breather hole, thus causing a vacuum so after a while no fuel will flow out, worth a try.
  14. hi the reeds you have fit to the reed block which fits between rubber carb mount and barrel, remove the carb, the reed block will pull out of barrel when usually 4 bolts are removed, the reeds then sit under a bent reed stop which is screwed to block with three screws which are the 3 holes you are talking about, one reed petal to each side,it becomes obvious when you start taking things off.cheers mark.

hi cynic thanks for the reply,i have not had it to bits to check if they have been replaced, bottom end pokes not too bad,in my profile you can see i have a couple of 175s,this is by far a better bike, although nowhere as mad as my IT465,although totally impracticle on the road, looks like i will be saving my cash for something else. cheers for now mark.

hi everyone just a quick one for those in the know,i am thinking of fitting hy tech reeds and was wondering if anyone has already fitted them and if they notced any significant difference,or will i just be wasting money, bike is a 54 plate 125re,fully derestricted, full dep system, inlet mod done, wire earthed, goes off the clock easily 80+ mph shown. cheers mark.
  17. hi the part i would be looking at is the bearing in the sprocket carrier, the dampers you are referring to are cush drive rubbers that are there to cushion the forcre of acceleration and brakingso as not to rip sprocket from mounts, any excess play you have i would put monet on is caused by the carrier bearing, remove the sprocket carrier and feel the inside of bearing and try to move it,it should be quite solid with no sideways movement. cheers mark.
  18. hi sounds a classic case of over tight head bearings, loosen bolts on top yoke, centre and fork bolts, just under top yoke you will see a notched ring, tap that a little to undo it,try bike again, handlebars should move freely to both sides, ride bike and brake hard to see if you get a clunk from the head stock,if you do you may have loosened them too much,if it clunks and bearings are still tight they are probably u.s.after all that dont forget to tighten yoke back up. cheers mark.
  19. hi everyone hope this may be of some use to someone, came across it by accident. riding my dtr125re,2004 model it started losing power, lights dimmed, would not go above about 50mph,finally got home, switched it off, would not switch back on,checked all connections, turned out to be a dirty connection on fuse located next to starter solenoid, when connection was dirty the neutral and oil light flickered when ticking over, dimmed when revved,i thought this was a main fuse but bike still ran with fuse removed,so anyone having problems with losing power or electrical problems its something to look at. cheers mark.

anybody had these 125 crank cases apart and noticed if enough room to get bigger crank in,i have a it 465,crank is huge, bottom end grunt brill, wheelie anywhere you want to,not really practicle for road use although it is registered, got the re to buzz about on and just looking at a bit more power,if cases need machining out i can get that done, just looking for crank web sizes etc to see if its feasible.a complete bottom end with a blown crank would be good if anyones got one at the right money. cheers mark.

hi everyone has anybody looked into converting a dtre 125 to a 200 or 230,i realise they will have different size bores, the main thing i am thinking is,is there enough room to fit the 200,230 crank with the longer con rod into the 125 crank cases, maybe a air cooled dt175 crank, any ideas welcome, has anybody had the 125 crank cases apart and noticed how much room around crank webs for a bigger crank. look forward to hearing from you all. cheers yamahait
  22. with mine you could see on the gasket where it had been leaking into the water jacket, also tell tale carbon track on cylinde head surface to small hole in barrel water jacket.
  23. i recently bought a dt125re,leaking aftermarket head gasket,total crap,yamaha £12 genuine gasket,job done,nearly 30 years of repairing bikes,most after market stuff is over priced and crap,your head could be warped,for £12 i would chance a genuine gasket,save your coolant,see what happens.
  24. hi we have just sorted my mates dt175 out that was doing exactly the same thing as yours, two seizures, rejetting, different front pipes, had giannelli on,tried fresco,no change, removed most of the baffle from standard silencer,no difference, tried a fresco performance silencer,SORTED,cut open standard silencer to see what was happening, main inlet pipe is capped off with two 10mm holes drilled for gas escape, backing everything up,over heats, seizes,REMOVE rear silencer and i am 99.9% sure that will solve your problem which was the mirror image of the problem we had. cheers
