Something different
Just back from this guys workshop, fascinating character, "very 'learn-ed' type you know", planning on trying this next spring, good 'alternative' to the 'carry on camping' camp sites that are dotted around the Bwitish Isles dear, for anyone thinking of a trip up to the 'wastelands' of Bonnie Ecosse - I would recommend this, WWW.redkiteyurts.com Note to self:: av been watching too much Ray Mears

Dunno about newer models but Xj's are renowned for reliability (the vauxhall Astra van of the bike world is how I've heard them described), easy to maintain and work on if anything does go wrong-which is rare, very comfy on long hauls-nice big fat seat, good near upright riding position too, much loved by couriers, you missed a stomper bargain on Fleabay the other night Steve a 1996 pre div with a genuine 8000 ish mileage-all Mot's present, 1 owner, a steal at £900, seller Ashford in Kent-buyer a guy with a big cheeser of a grin too big to get his lid on-unless he had an open facer , I would def recommend getting one, as far as 'what to look out for I'd consult 'Regards JimR', he the man

For the newbies
I also saw the post on paid membership, so when does the 'switch-over' occur, I hope its not gonna be one of these 'lucid' transient things with no 'launch-date', the kind of thing that is not tied in with 'Earth chronology', cos that really hacks people off, I dont mind paying for stuff as long as it has the same 'accuracy' as, par example- £10 Earth pounds, Sterling

(reinforced glove knuckles make for great effect!) and better still if you have 2 small prongs in the index finger tip, wired to a MF'r of a capacitor , me, I have a mini can of wd40 tucked into the dash and a well positioned 'extenda-straw', instant windscreen film-a-liser !, no I only kid, I dont do stuff like that anymore

bike will not start
Well dont panic, you will get smoke coming out of the plug ports, the smoke from exhaust may disappear after running for 5 mins, when you hold the throttle does it run smooth or is it lumpy?

tyre fiil
You've answered your own question then

bike will not start
At the top of page 25 the left hand picture shows the 'throttle stop screw',its arrowed 'A', try turning this by a small amount one way or the other and see if this helps, if you look up between the cylinders and the starter motor you can see it there
