  1. Thanks for the offer but I'm after a YPVS F2 in red and white. Also won't be looking to spend that much on one i doubt. Will probably be getting one that i can do a bit of work on myself. I'm watching a few on ebay. One that i want to bid on ends tomorrow so is a bit soon and wouldnt be able to view before hand. It's on around 1000 atm. A few others i like between 1500 and 2000.
  2. So I've finally got round to taking my test. I did a 3 day intensive course wed-friday. First day consisted of getting on this hunk of shit Kawasaki ER-6n, riding around a playground twice and then out on the road. Local riding first day, second day we went up to burgess hill and rode around the roads around the test centre, third day was the test. Was absolutely pooing my pants. Sailed through mod 1 without a minor. Picked up 3 minors on the road ride (mod 2). All three for being cautious. I stopped at two roundabouts that i didnt "need" to, and didnt go past a 4x4 that had stopped at lights straddling the two lanes. All things I would have not done if i were riding myself but thought id be cautious for the test. The three days including test cos 495, optional incurance for the bike was 15 a day and then petrol for the bike each day. An expensive few days but well worth it! Now i'm on the look out for a nice RD350LC YPVS FII!
  3. The DTR servo, cables and pulley sit on the left hand side of the bike. by your left knee in a way.
  4. They will all have the "powervalve" fitted. It's just about the servo motor, cables, pully and pully cover. The only part that is hard to get is the servo. You can slightly adjust the position of the powervalve in the exhaust port to suit yourself. Theres more posts about it in the de restricing DTR thread. The bikes were never sold with the powervavle servo kit as standard until 1997 i think. Before then they were not fitted and sold as an upgrade by yamaha as a kind of de-restricion from learner legal bikes. Have you found out if the servo is different? There are two main types, 3 wire and 5 wire.
  5. I dont think i have anything that you need infact, only bits that you may want as spares. But all of my parts are not in good condition and would need some work to get them in a useable condition. There is a thread in the for sale section with the bits and photos. I'm not sure about the servo, but i know that the early DTR ones are rare enough themself so i bet you'll have a hard job finding a DT125C one if they are different. Find a Parts manual. I think i have a Parts manual for a DT125LC on microfice somewhere. Infact i think i got it photocopied. If i can find it i'll scan it all in and put i a pdf. I think thats where the gasket set im looking for is as well. Thanks, you may have found my missing gasket set! HAHA!
  6. So I've got the week off work appaarently. I think someones made some mistakes with holiday hours but that suits me. Yesterday i took the clutch apart. Turned out the plates were all just stuck together. As i took it off i notice that the basket had some strange wear marks and thought i was screwed. I put it all back together and it works fine. then i found this on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-Yamaha-WR200-clutch-assembly-92-wr-200-/190421786622?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5605dffe Exactly the same wear marks. Strange. All working fine though. Waiting for the throttle cable to arrive. Then it will be onto the electrics. =/
  7. I might do the same. Keep me updated on how you'll set that up and I'll probably copy you again! How do you mix it up in the tank though? Just shake it around?
  8. My greatest fear of the day was being eaten by a shark. My second was buggery! DeeTeeMX has a spare 2stroke tank so im buying that from him. I'll then look about getting an oil pump fitted as they look to use the same as the DTR's. Also, the later Dt's have the male threaded section coming from the top of the carb. I have one in my bloody garage and just never thought about it. Never had that bike apart so didnt realise! So if i get an autolube system set up, i should be able to use the throttle cable with junction box from a DT125!
  9. Cheers guys. Nev, did you not suggest the polisport tail tidy? If not ive no idea where i got that from then! HA! Yeah would be nice to have a film of it running! I've been in brighton today shooting a Viral Advert for www.trueutility.co.uk I ended up acting in it. I had to walk around brighton in just a pair of tight swimming shorts and some flippers. I'll upload it once ive edited. Got a few more to shoot over the next few weeks as well but hopefully they'll be less embaressing!
  10. Ok so I've got more pictures and have made more progress! I really dont like the graphics kit that is on there at the moment and apparently i am "obsessed with black and white" my girlfriend says as i have chosen to go with black and white colour scheme. It's because i've resprayed my MTB recently and it's also B&W. So i started stripping off all the stickers and T-cutting the plastics as they had loads of scratches and dirt filled chips. This worked relly well. The front mudguard and fork protectors havnt come up particularly well but at the end of the day they will be cover in the new graphics kit anyway. As you can see, the black sections still need work and none of the panels have been polished. I used autoglym resin polish to buff up the headlight surround which worked great and looks fantastic now. It might have to stay plain white as the graphics kits made are for the original units and this is an aftermarket. I'm glad as it looks alot nicer than the 90's square style one! I had been told that the clutch was broken. I took the clutch cover off and cannot see any damage and i think that it is just stuck. So my next stage was to get a clutch cable. I tried my local yamaha dealer, as you do, and they told me that they do not deal with the offroad bikes and cannot get any parts but reccomended a motocross shop that i have used before for barrel bore's on DT125's. Boretech Engineering. The guy there was the one that told me that the bike was a dt200wr and not a wr200. I also asked for a throttle cable and explained to him that the bike was premix so the original with a junction box wouldnt be best. I took the throttle twistgrip and housing and carb up to him with a piece of string for the length and he said he would be able to source or make one to ft. After weeks of calling him to find out if my cables were ready and being told "tomorrow or friday" each week. He finally had the clutch cable and "A" throttle cable. The clutch is right but the throttle is from a YZ80 and is pretty much useless. Not impressed. I then remembered that DeeTeeMX that used to use this forum to discuss DT125's had a DT200WR and so i made contact with him. He suggested that i try finding a WR200 throttle cable as they used the same carb and wernt autolube. What a lead! I then happened to be looking through the forums on here and in the workshop section i found the link to the parts manuals that OldGit had posted. Effing brilliant! The Yamaha WR200RD (as listed in the parts manuals) uses exactly the same parts as the Yamaha DT200WR. So now i have a complete parts manual with parts numbers for te bike. It gets better. I then googled a few of the part numbers. First i found an american company that stocks a huge amount of the parts, ok so i have to pay some more postage but these parts are like hens teeth due to the rarity of the bike. I continued interrogating Mr.G.Oogle and he reliquished his secrets! A UK company based in mitlon keys that stocks more than the american company and has almost every single nut, bolt and washer (Yamaha OEM parts). Ok so £1,400 for a frame is alot and £450 odd for the powervalve servo is too, but most is fairly priced!!!! http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/modelImage.asp?modelID=10665&uid=0 The exhuast is now as far as i am going to take it. It's very hard to get in under the bend in the pipe near the manifold where the remainder of the rust is. I may give it another go but it looks a hell of a lot better than it did when i started and still needs more polishing! Thanks Nev! I had a quick look at the swing arm. It appears that with a bit of T cut and rag it will come up great! The seat will need to be re covered in black. I will probably use Nev's guy down his way unless i can find anything better locally to save on postage. There is one on ebay in black and good con (the pics say so anyway). But the guy wants 38 quid minimum and his replies are blunt and unhelpful so ill avoid him i think. Another thanks to nev for recommending the Polisport tail tidy. I ordered one from ebay for 37 quid delivered and also ordered a set of indicators (4 for £23 delivered). The tail tidy is ready to be fitted. The front indicators will need some mounting plates made up but i have an engineering friend who can sort that for me. I have the V55/5 form, a dating certificate and the £55 ready. I need to get the bike ready for an mot which apparently will be done on the frame number. I still don't know for sure that the bike is legit but as th police are refusing to check i have no option but to go for it! I've been really busy recently and havnt got as much done as i would have liked. Now the bike is behind my Dads bike and i fear moving his too much to do any work on mine! Ha! So thats the stage I am at! Will update more when i have more! I've got my DAS test next friday so will probably be getting alot of riding hours on the DT125 before hand so wont do much for a week or so.
  11. I believe the mk2 & 3 are very similar. the 2 introduced the front disc brake and stayed with drum on the back throughout the mk3. In 88 the DTR came about which had discs on front and back and was a very different bike. Another difference between the mk1 and 2 was the swing arm. I think it was the mk2 that first used the monocross swing arm, before then it had another bar that went up at a 45 degree angle. google it you'll see what i mean. Most of the parts between the mk 1 2 and 3 are interchangeable. They only made a few tweaks to the bike during these years, hence them being mk 1 2 and 3, then they re vamped it completely in 1988 bringing out the new 'model' DT125R. I have a few bits left from the LC models, if you are in need of any let me know and ill see if i have them.
  12. So I'm finally getting round to starting my project thread. The main reason I havn't so far is because I can't drag myself away from the bike! A friend who dabbles in bikes was offered this when he put an ad in the friday-ad for "Project Bikes wanted". He wasnt interested but knew i liked 2-stroke powervalve models so offered it to me. I ended up paying £170 for it. My plan is to put it on the road and use until I find the right RD350LC YPVS. So i pushed it home, put everything back on that had been taken off and this is what it looked like. I Love It! It may be in a mess and the graphics are awful but the look of the bike is, in my opinion, fantastic. I was originally going to just fix it up and sell it on for some more money towards a nicer RD350 but now i NEED to ride it. I started with the exhuast. This was because I saw Nev's project thread and decided to give his idea of T cut and a wire brush a go. It worked brilliantly. I've put that down in favour of getting everything mechanically sound and ready for an mot but here are some photos of the stage i am at. The DEP pipe was absolutly covered in rust when i got it. Its eaten right into it but visually it will come up great. After wire brushing it all off i found that Autoglym metal polish was the best for getting a sheen. Better than Autosol strangely. On one of the photos you can see either side of the seam, the bit that has had the most work. Well thats all the photos i have atm, as the rest are on the girlfriends digital camera. These are from my iphone and are shite quality. I'll have the get the others put on the mac soon. If i wake her up for her camera now i'll never be allowed to use it again so i'll just be patient!!!
  13. Wow, forgot i had even posted on this thread. Coincidentally i have just got a DT200WR. Well a few weeks back now. Currently in the process of getting it sorted for an MOT and ready to be put on the road. If anyone has a wiring diragram it would be much appreciated!
  14. They didnt come with the pulleys etc when they wernt being operated by the servo. It just untightens, can then be turned, then tightened up. I beleive.
  15. Hi Jeremy. I have a 1986 DT125LC mk3. I am also having CDI problems in the sense that so far i cannot get a spark. I managed to pick up another CDI from ebay a while back but have had other projects recently so havnt checked. I may be going to a place soon that can test them so ill get both tested and if they both work and i dont need one, ill keep you in mind. (if you havnt resolved the problem by then).
  16. Nice bikes! Are they your cars in the photo's too. Is it a Rover p6 in the background of one photo?
  17. Yeah i didnt bother cleaning it, just started snapping away at all my old bits and listing. Just need the space rather than the money. Hope they honour their bids. All the money from these parts is going into the DT200WR. I sold the bottom end of this engine to someone on saturday for 72 quid. Never expected just the head to sell for more! Ha!
  18. I know we've discussed the difference between 3MB and 3BN cyclinder heads before but i'd like to bring it back up. I'm clearing all of my old DTR parts from the loft and listed a 3BN head on ebay a few days ago. Just checked it last night and this is what i found http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270781212564&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT Why is it worth so much money if this is the one that actually restricts? I read a bit about squish bands and everything seems to point to the fact that they increase performance. Any one any other ideas as to why it would have reached £77? Andy
  19. Sounds good to me. Black and Green have to be earned!!
  20. Same here, my preference is blue but i like them all.
  21. I bet Nev has voted for the bottom! What with his alternative DTR designs!!! Make all 3 and bump the price up a bit!
  22. Thanks, yeah it can be a bit headachy with the focus pulls! I'm looking out for a tailtidy for the WR now. I've found the pilosport one you mentioned on ebay i think, from AG racing. Nice, and sub 40 quid delivered is pretty impressive! The reason i ask about the panels is because i can't find any decent graphic kits anywhere for the model of DT i have. DD graphics (i think) had some that they make to fit but they look pretty tacky imo. Tempted to do a re spray but im skills aren't top notch and decals would be much easier! I'd seen that front guard around places but never seen it online. Yeah i know the feeling with regards to the old parts having come off. My brother liked my DT having ridden it a few times and sold his old Yamaha SR125 and managed to get a DT125R 1991 from a friend of mine for 350 quid! tax mot etc...So various bits of my spares have wondered off and appeard attacthed to his bike! I'm happy though as i'm waiting for him to get bored and sell it to me so i can restore it! I didn't have a decent wire brush wheel drill attatchment the other day but did have something similar. Worked fairly well and buffs up nicely. Will get the attatchment tomorrow an give it a better go. I've ordered the hycote. I found it on ebay for 2.89 a tin + 1.39 delivery, which i thought was pretty good! I think i might start my own thread for my restoration. It won't be as detailed and well done as yours but hey! Thanks for the inspiration and good luck with the rest of the build! Cannot wait to see the final article! Andy
  23. Thanks agsin Nev! This will be the first true restoration I have done. I rebuilt a 2002 DTR a few years back which i have only just sold inafct, but most of the work was already done and i merely got the mechanics sorted and sold it on as it was offroad only. I've no fear of a bit of hard work though so that definiteley won't be a problem and i have plenty of practise in polishing and buffing as my road bike currently is a DTRE 05 (ignore the title) and I like to keep it as i bought it (183 miles on the clock). Here is a little video of it I made during a uni course (I'm a video editor). I might have to make one for this DT once she is finished! Can't wait to see your DTR as a whole too. What plastics are you using? Andy
