hi folks seen an advert for a company that does re-bores ect. in dublin, so i asked for a price for the rd 250E. he came back with a price of 225euro, (£200) and that was me supplying the pistons!!!!! the bike was not seized and it only has light scratches due to wear. is this inflation gone mad or what? anybody got a ball park figure of what it normally is? thanks

hi guys looking for a bit of advice on a pick-up coil. got a replacement from another bike but the wires are a differant colour. just wondering is there set way that these are wired i.e. power in one side and out the other? any help would be much appreciated. thanks
  3. hi mate i use wurth dry chain. best i have found as it doesnt land all over the back wheel !!!!. my neighbour is a sales rep for them and he gave me a can and i havent used anything else since. wurth also do a lot of nuts, bolts, electrical conectors, ect too so he is handy to know.
  4. they should all slide out be careful not to bend them
  5. he said that one valve slid out easily, has he maybe dropped a valve and cracked the head????
  6. dont go near them with a punch!!! you said that one just slid out, did it slide out itself or did u remove the retaining colletts?
  7. how do you mean that only one valve slid out ? they should all slide out after you take the collets off them.you should be able to feel a slight resistance due to the film of oil on them. be careful not to get the valves mixed up. they must go back to the corresponding barrels that they came from. as for regrinding the valves it is an easy job. go to your local car spares store and ask them for a valve grinding kit. it contains a wooden rod with a sucker on the end and two small tubs of paste, one coarse, one fine. you start with the coarse compund and smear a little on the seat of the valve(the v shape where it sits in the head) and you attatch the sucker to it and turn it between the palms of your hands (as if you were lighting a fire) and the paste grinds the face of the valve and the seat together. keep doing this until the v shape is of a uniform colour adding more paste as required. when this is done wipe the paste clean and use the same procedure with the fine paste. be sure and get all the paste of before re-assembling the engine as this will destroy it. wash it out with gunk or desiel and blow it all out. also check that the valves are not bent by rolling them over a flat surface like a kitchen worktop. hope this helps

the bike has only done about 3000 miles since i got her and there are no static cameras here only mobile and they deal with you there and then. never been done. and as for the vehicles not being legal it usually the tax that is out by a couple of months. only had one car in the last 9 years that was totally legal and it only lasted about a fortnight as some old guy wrote it off for me.
  9. i would also check the piston rings. they may have broke but not scratched the liner. re-grind the valves anyway as you have the head off. another thought is check your air box for oil from the crank breather it may be pulling it into the cylinder.

shit!!!! just seen the news that our local gestapo here in donegal have just been issued with no less than 118 ANPR cars. i will need to get some paperwork for the car,van and the bike. the bike has northern plates still registered to the last owner for the past 2 years and is insured in scotland. may have to pay the VRT and the sky-high insurance in the south.

im up here in donegal about 3 1/2hrs drive (car) from dublin. the roads are a f****ing nightmare, like riding on a river bed,potholes/gravel everywhere. car drivers dont look for bikes and up here you have got to dodge the wild deer jumping in front of you. appart from that the scenery is amazing. good luck on your travels and keep us posted.

me again dont know if you have a single or twin cylinder engine, but if its a twin and you are getting a spark try swapping the plug leads round

if it aint broke dont fix it! heard that line many a time but i dont listen either. anyway i would also go with the oil level theory. remember that when you change the oil and filter the sump will take more oil than normal as the filter soaks it up thus giving a low reading. i always soak my filters in the new oil before fitting then. there is also less chance of an airlock. you say you had a problem with the side stand switch if so disconnect the wires and join them together to complete the curcuit. hope this helps good luck

hows it going i sprayed the bumpers on my van. i gave them a good clean with thinners after buffing/sanding any deep scratches and i sprayed a clear layer of plastic adhesive on it.(cant remember the name but i think i have the old tin). i then gave it a couple of heavy layers of primer. filled out any scratches with cataloy/cellulose putty and sanded down.(be careful not to sand of the plastic adhesive hence the heavy primer) i then mixed hardener through the paint and sprayed. you might be as well stripping all the paint of your panels as there might not be plastic adhesive under yours and it may start to peel off after time. also if you spray on top of the exsisting paint, the new paint might react with it and cause it to craze. as for spraying with a can i personaly wouldnt do it, you will get a better finnish with the gun so try and borrow/hire one (it will work out cheaper than cans)

if it is turning over and no spark then i would say its the kill switch. the kill switch completes a circiut and if it is faulty then the starter wont turn on the button.

it only cost £50 for the stainless and the welder has been flat out since. the tig also welds with the stick (arc) aswell. depends on how much welding you do it can be worth it.

hi i made new pipes for my triumph and they are the same size right through. i bought some 90deg. bends, cut and welded to suit and made a new set of cans aswell. made a big differance. had to reduce the baffle size slightly and moved the needle jets up a notch to eliminate a bad flat spot. total cost to buy (2) slip-on cans = £750-850 (holy shit) new tig welder and a load of stainless = £350 satisfaction = priceless
  24. if it was standard then they may deal with it right away. not good advertising is it.
  25. some mess mate. the only thing is if there is anything aftermarket on her the fuckers might not pay up!!!
