  1. I wouldn't put racing oil in, just go with mineral if you've no choice. I use Millars 20 50 semi sythn for classic engines (£38 gulp!!) I doubt you got a plastic bristle though the pilot sytem within the carb! its a labrynth of turns etc. that's why i recommend ultrasonic. If you look back on some old threads, you will note posters swearing blind that they have cleaned out the carb X many times and still come to the same conclusion that there was still crud in there. I would have thought changing the bulbs would be the easiest option first (why strip down wiring?) some past user prob cou;dn't be arsed to change the bulb and left them blown. if thats not the case, its usually corroded connections/switches) drewps

saw the fist pic and I thought "very nice" saw the second and WOW. done a great job there. nice paint job too!! (although i prefer the wire wheels)
  3. my brake pedal is slightly below the footrest, that way i can rest my foot on it with out depressing the rear brake!! may be its just the setup, but never had any probs in that dept.

I was walking through the park and I saw an old guy doing Tai Chi. I watched him for a while, marvelling at his moves. Only when I got closer did I see it was a tramp trying to put on his coat.

  8. I would say the rings are gummed up and the bike needs using. best to service the bike which would only take couple of hours (especially the valve gaps) clutch slipping and the throttle cable needs renewing or adjusting near the grip ebay is good , speed sport will have them but it'll cost ya pilot jets are still blocked either get the professionally cleaned or use ultrasonic bath. connection is under the left rear cover its a off white nylon triangle just infront of the chain and behind the oil switch. put new bulbs in!! drewps

  11. I would say its the solinoid, just make sure you are getting power from the starter button as they have a habit of coming off and all the connections are good (the smaller wire ones as you have checked the thick ones) drewps

you can take the plates off and renew with new/breaker part, or retap if you think there is room
  13. they did enlarge the hole a bit, but new needles will compensate and I've had no problems!! most carbs will be worn by now anyway, so get the kits

  17. could be a bad battery not keeping charge thus affecting the alternator. It happened on mine and took me ages to suss (I even changed the voltage regulator) the battery was only 1 month old. now it charges a peach

keep going, you'll get there eventually to the forum
  20. Matt, good ride there ( yes I'm biased) DOHC is a later "euro styled" model from '81 and comes in two flavours 45 BHP or 34 bhp (usa market) this has nothing to do with your SOHC model so be careful. There are also custom, heritage models sharing the same engine but with a different frame and longer forks. Both my carbs had their pilot needles snapped off and I had someone push them through. rebuild kits from here
