MSF Experienced RiderCourse after action report...
drewpy replied to plain old dave's topic in Classics
glad you got something out of it. I had to do similar things for my (then) part 1 off road test! -
its cheaper to get a "top end" gasket kit rather than separate items. then you get everything you need ( or thought you didn't need) don't forget you also need a torque wrench for the head. drewps

I'd say take it with you to a parts store and act daft, you may be in with a chance and nothing to lose!!
-
Foamy, if you have the original you can get one made here

what day is uttoxeter?

forgot that one. I'm too busy that weekend and its the last one there a well!!

no-one has mentioned Cof G as this affects how the bike behaves and what you can do with it. you can tighten up a bend by leaning low and forward on the side you are turning and the bike will steer that way better. rossi in the GP today was trying out a different approach by kicking his leg out early to set the bike up for the bend. drewps

try fuel in the bore as well, don't know if you drained the carbs before storage, otherwise its a carb strip and clean!!
-
the procedure is in the manual which you can get in the sticky that yamagod has posted. for the cam tensioner, you will need to lift the head off and it might be a good idea anyway, so you can check valves, rockers for wear etc oil should be ideally on the top line, but between is ok, are you using the correct grade (20w 40 in usa, 20w/50 in uk) and are you checking AFTER just resting the dip sick ontop of the casing (ie not screwed in!) drewps
-
not running clean, maybe you have an air leak in the manifold. have you tried spraying wd40 over the inlet sto check for airleaks? checked your valve gaps? could also be tensioner blades for the cam chain

the bike was only £200!! the only "goodies" we got was the bloody salt from the rain we got on the ride there!! I got a rack for me bike ( for N Ireland trip) £25 NOS spoke keyand 2 rim tapes and 2 grommets that OG swore would fit ( and they don't, so you owe me 40p OG!!)
-

Wild Foamies new bike, OG demonstating it's road hugging abilities George Formby Metal flake Hyabusa. the gas cap alone cost £300 to make, gulp!! tried to find wild foamy here, but he must have gone for a wee a very nice Vincent engine in a featherbed frame

if you go to the classic section, I have put a sticky for xs400 links. gas so has also put a very useful link for sorting out xs650 carbs. drweps
