  14. I would say the stem seals are leaky as they will have dried in storage. its a head off job and valve spring compressor with top end gasket kit!! decoke the engine whilst your in there ad lap in the valves. the compression is 156psi with 14 psi difference between the 2 cyls

    what happens saturday and sunday?
  19. PJ1 black satin is the way to go, no primer required. I never seen a better paint to resist fuel and heat. I cried when the main factory was burned down ( well not quite!) as they stopped making My yamaha silver for the xs cases. they only make black now!! The stuff yambits sells is crap, it runs and you have to bake it forever to get the petrol resistance ( and it still pools silver if you spill on it) drewps
  20. love the styling and its great to see what people do to these versatile bikes. bobbers, chops, caferacers, trackers, seen most of these but yours is "one of a kind" well done!
  21. you can get remanufactured fuse boxes on UK ebay. apart from 30 year old wiring issues, there no massive problems just need to ensure you have a good battery for charging. drewps
  22. good one, i'll copy and paste the info into the sticky for xs400's drewps
  23. i use 20w fork oil for 200 lbs bloke
  24. flangers? do you mean the collars that hold the exhaust to the head? yep you would need those to get a gas tight seal! a dim head lamp could be a bad earth lead, so check all your black wire's connections and the bit under the seat where it touches the frame, make sure there is good contact (remove and scrape) does the headlamp get brighter when you rev?
