  1. congrats on another year Merv
  2. scary stuff
  3. BP7-ES is the one listed
  4. If you look at the wiring diagram, the pints earth the coils which have a red/white positive feed via the ignition switch. ther is also a condesor to prevent sparks across the points, preventing arcing (sparks) which will erode the contact surface. the time the contacts are closed it powers up the coils in primary coil and when the contacts separate, the built up power in the coils has no where to go so passes to the secondary coils and jumps the spark plug gap (the easiest earth path). thats why HT leads are well insulated, stopping any earth leakage. hope that sinmplified explanation helps.

the regulator may not work for that type of charging system. It could be for a permenant magnet one! have a ganders at your earth connectins too
  6. glad I couldn't make it in the end. Better be back to normal next year!

    I think you are right....
  10. get a battery! check fuses by removing and cleaning the glass fuses. no power as such across the points its a ground for the coils.

    what's the question again?
  12. have you put the O rings back the correct way? mikexs describes the way they go in in the advert for bs34 carbs
  13. I would dsay its an earthing issue, check all black wires from the signals and clean frame around them.
  14. presumably its an xs400! the carbs need a really good clean, ie strip and all the orifcies clear, use berrymans or seafoam and blow through with air.
  15. here's a scan
  16. wait till you see the rest of the bike.... anyway
  17. in weakens the mix! the slow to return to idle usually means its weak. If when it is warm, what is the response like then?
  18. cheers fellas
  19. cheers Merv
  20. if you have sight of your parts and they look the same, i would get them. on part #48-5012 I would look at a new needle kit instead/as well, as I'm sure it wil be worn.
  21. so its back to a yam now? Bar-stewards, obviuosly done to order, probably for parts!
  22. that is a brass plug, take it out by self tapping screw and yank on it. under neath that's where the pilot screw is. That version will have an O ring which will almost certainly have perished. Mikes XS have spares. know the manual says 32mm but if you have brass floats, they are best @ 26mm
  23. to the forum. Fairly rare bikes , so keep an eye out for sapres in fleebay
  24. i used to live in Combe Martin!
