never mind, just think about this time next year when its all in the past I'm still waiting for my rear shock to be finished. They are having issues taking out the bushing due to it being there for a few years and a 40 ton press won't shift it! can't do anything else till the shocks fitted
  4. ouch! may be try it with the clutch in, it won't kick over the bike but just spin the clutch basket. just in case the top was not timed properly
  5. What he said ^^^
  6. shouldn't watch it whilst doing the dishes Kev
  7. only better when the kids are off school, tells you something about today's parents. I hardly ever took mine to school, they walked or took the bus
  8. hard to tell via text, sounds about right what you say. maybe try and do it again, you don't need to drain out the oil, keep the bike on its side stand and the oil will drain to the left. (thats why I start the bike upright so the oil pump gets some oil to pump) just don't try and kick over without the cover on as it will snap the crankcase bearing in the gearbox and will scrap the cases.
  9. is the side cover fitted? I always have issues getting the kick stop and gears to mesh when putting in the kick shaft. Its usually trial and error for me and I've rebuilt 3 engines
  10. geeze, shit happens man. good opportunity to buy some new stuff
  11. yep, CDI went out early 70's could be either the ignition caps or leads if you can get 1 and 4 to work
  12. do you have a spare TCI?
  13. schedule is now out http://www.iomtt.com/Classic-TT/Classic-TT-Schedule.aspx
  14. therm shock will get them off as Slice suggested, heat, then cold ad infinitumn. should come loose eventually
  15. these have one pickup coil. its a wasted spark system so 1 and 4 cyl sparks and so does 2 and 3 so I'd look at the coil. First look to see if 12v is reaching the coils with the ignition on. The TCI earths to ground to complete the circuit, also check the HT caps as they fail too. I assume you've swapped the plugs in case they are faulty?
  16. it depends on which year is your xj, the '91 has one pickup coil, earlier ones had 2.
  17. my mate was part of the Lymn show, I did the older venues, but never went to the Barn Owl (I might shut it down like the others) RC31? nice

if the bushes are worn, it creates movement and forces the seal into positions it wasn't designed to do. could happen to any bike, if you have a main stand, put it on that and try to rock the lower forks fore and aft to detect any movement
