An engineering student was at campus parking an R1 when he was approached by a friend, also an engineering student. The friend said, "Hey, where'd you get the great looking bike?" The first engineer replied, "Well, I was walking across the campus car park the other day. This beautiful woman rode up to me on her R1, ripped off all her clothes, laid down on the ground and said 'Take anything you want!!!'" The second engineer replied, "Good choice. Her clothes probably wouldn't have fit anyway!"

what does it say in the owners handbook re:oil? full synth is chemically made and semi's are cracked mineral oils and are worlds apart and are specific for a particular type of engine. Because of this, early synth oils broke their polymer chains by mixing and caused blockages as the oil changed, not so sure nowerdays. Even synths differ in their make-up and you have to check contents listing. true synths are group 4 oils (fuchs etc) I only know this when I went for oil for my Renault and it was a minefield. I settled on 5w 40 Fuchs supersynth SL for the car. please don't use sick 50 (not a spelling mistake)

Joe wanted to buy a motorbike. He doesn't have much luck until, one day, he comes across an XS400 with a 'for sale' sign on it. The bike seems even better than a new one, although it is 30 years old. It is shiny and in absolute mint condition. He immediately buys it, and asks the seller how he kept it in such great condition for 30 years. "Well, it's quite simple, really," says the seller, "whenever the bike is outside and it's going to rain, rub Vaseline on the chrome. It protects it from the rain." And he hands Joe a jar of Vaseline. That night, his girlfriend, Sandra, invites him over to meet her parents. Naturally, they take the bike there. Just before they enter the house, Sandra stops him and says, "I have to tell you something about my family before we go in. When we eat dinner, we don't talk. In fact, the first person who says anything during dinner has to do the dishes." "No problem," he says. And in they go. Joe is shocked. Right smack in the middle of the living room is a huge stack of dirty dishes. In the kitchen is another huge stack of dishes. Piled up on the stairs, in the corridor, everywhere he looks, dirty dishes. They sit down to dinner and, sure enough, no one says a word. As dinner progresses, Joe decides to take advantage of the situation and leans over and kisses Sandra. No one says a word. So he reaches over and fondles her breasts. Still, nobody says a word. So he stands up, grabs her, rips her clothes off, throws her on the table, and makes love to her right there, in front of her parents. His girlfriend is a little flustered, her dad is obviously livid, and her mum horrified when he sits back down, but no one says a word. He looks at her mum. "She's got a great body," he thinks. So he grabs the mum, bends her over the dinner table, and has his way with her every which way right there on the dinner table. Now his girlfriend is furious and her dad is boiling, but still, total silence. All of a sudden there is a loud clap of thunder and it starts to rain. Joe remembers his bike, so he pulls the jar of Vaseline from his pocket. Suddenly the father backs away from the table and shouts, "All right, that's enough, I'll do the bleeding dishes!"

  18. tune up the bike first, ignition timing, valve gaps, compression check and new spark plugs. then get back to us if it still plays silly buggers. ps check out motorcycle mechanics october issue (UK), they have a feature on the tx/xs500. come on england!!!

Its the polymers in the oil with synths, your not supposed to use full synth. sounds like you are getting some clutch slip and it will get worse as the cork on the clutch starts to go as they are not designed with synth in mind!! your choice of course I wonder if an outer bearing seal is becomming brittle and when cold becames harder? maybe a crank/camshaft seal if it is revs dependant. A trick is to use a long screwdriver and listen like a stethescope for the loudest part.

check out my free parts lists upload on the forum. then you can search each year to find the same part #, but the drum has a notch on the forks, whereas the disk has mounting holes for the caliper. you would also need front forks! Ditto for the 400 head the 250 and 400 def share the same layout but 250 has more meat and smaller valves. drewpy ps the "alloy" wheels weigh a ton, that's why i converted mine to 250 wires at great expense. (worth it though)

AARRHH you used synthetic with a wet clutch. that noise could be the clutch slipping as the oil is too slippy. what's your acceleration like? You need at the most semi synth,

Silly Billy, you need to look at it with one eye, half closed and infected with late stages of conjunctivitus. Then it gets into perspective!!!
