  2. found out a bit more of the bike The "Silver Dream Racer" called the Barton phoenix, was the 750 square four built by Barton Motors and housed in a Spondon frame. Dyson of Dyson Originals made the bodywork. They made a 500 version as well. It had disc valve induction, and in fact made a lot of power and was very fast, but getting them to last a race without a siezure was a big challenge. Barry Hart, the inventor/builder, had very little sponsorship, and most of the development came out of his own pocket. He packed it in shortly after the film was made. The same motor was used with some success by Nigel Rollason, who in fact won the TT with an outfit powered by the 750. Buell also had one and had very little good to say about it more info HERE
  3. is it recessed or proud?

the plate times one set of points and a smaller plate (on the main plate) sets the other. you need to time them via the left crank cover cover and the points should open on LF and RF (left and right) use a multimeter or bulb and battery to know when they open. I'd do 2 1/2 turns out on the carsb, although it won;t prevent it from starting. If the ignition is timed, just chuck some fuel in the bore and heat up the spark plug to fire it up!!

who remembers when you flashed a car the same model as yours? dad used to have a "herbie" and that got the best reactions (as they still do now with the "W" wave) it's harder now as the cars all look the same but in the 70's it was common. I drive an RX4 and we alway wave to each other as there are so few of them around!!

  24. Whay!! rebuilt engine fired straightaway. the reason I did it was because the engine case was porous and leaked oil. the new case was from XS360's (R.I.P.) estate and was only £2. spent another £200 on bearings and gaskets etc though!!! checked the timimg and unbeliveably it was only very slightly retarded (like me) so left it for now. just been for a cautious blast and it hunts slightly in low revs. i have reset the float height as it was set too high at 26mm and should be 32mm. I think i need to balance the carbs and richen the pilot screws. engine nice and quiet as I put in new rings i bought years ago with new cyl head (£60), camchain(£38) and camshaft (£15). MOT due but it'll piss it!! I forgot the brakes were shit hot (xs1100 twin disks)
