1980 XS 400 Wheel & tire?
should be obvious, the xs400 speedo mirrors the casting on the opp side. the disk has a big hole in the middle to go over the speedo drive!!

Polishing the case covers
invest in a cheap bench grider and get a set of polishing mops. you can do mirror finishes in an hour or so. nice work though, now you have gorilla arms

79 xs400 camshaft oil seal
sounds knackered mate. you shouldn't be able to push it up at all. the run out limit is 0.1mm (0.004in) according to the yam service manual. new head and cam cover ( matched pair) is needed, unless you can line bore them and retro fit bearings.

1980 XS 400 Wheel & tire?
not sure i did a step by step, but it is very easy... yam wheel has a cover on opp side of hub and pry this off to reveal the machined holes for another disk. 1) fit another disk 2) you need a left hand early type lower fork part. they have a fitting for another caliper mount 3) use a caliper and mount from an SR500 . these are the same as xs400 right side, but it says left or "L" on it 4) buy 1 longer brake pipe and a double banjo fitting for the master cylinder 5) use master cylinder from an xs750, 850 or XS1100 twin disk bike. I would rebuild it with new seals 6) bleed system for 2 hours and there you have a twin disk set-up drewps

How F*%ink much?
doesn't really break, as bearings take the rotational wear. it would be cheaper to buy a whole bike

79 xs400 camshaft oil seal
have you checked the gap between camshaft and head/cover? sounds like they are worn, maybe due to worn oil pump not providing enough pressure!!

1980 XS 400 Wheel & tire?
you can get any thing to fit if you really want it bad. the bigger bikes run 19" on front and 18" on rear I've just put a 3:50 tyre on my flat tracker front and it looks funky chunky!! and on a 1.85 rim

Electrical Shock from XS400
I took the cap off my sparkie to run on 1 cylinder ( for testing) and the bugger zapped me. Me being the easiest way to earth check the caps are screwed on tight and in the HT lead centre. I can touch my leads with the plugs attached and not get a belt.

to the forum and many happy smiles on your new steed

XS360 blowby?
Tim, I'd check that the breather hose (rear of engine, behind the starter cover) is not kinked or blocked, this releases the pressure from the gearbox/crank area and the cam chain shaft (which goes into the rocker box). If that is clear then you will need to do a pressure test as this would be the easiest thing to do next. let us know how you get on drewps
