looks like you are going the right way about it. don't forget to take LOADS of pictures as you go. break the work into modules, eg brakes, engine, electrical, dials etc, label and box everything in its modules with bubble wrap. list every thing you need and tick it off when bought, I find I buy at least 2 items of the same part try not to rush, but don't stall the project or you'll get peed off with it. have fun..... drewps

  5. probably all the fuel and choke cleaner you put in the engine. has it settled down yet or still reving? could also indicate a very weak(lean) mixture!! Air getting in somewhere ( use easy start or similar to check for leaks) drewps

a few pointers here http://www.factorypro.com/tech/carbtun.html http://jrs.uk.com/JRS_Home.html make sure you have al gaskets, you will need an impact driver for those bloody float bowl screws ( unless they are allen type) borrow an ultrasonic cleaner for the parts. have a manual handy and work CLEAN!

see what you mean now, strange one that. All i can think of is the original setup had a front end collision sending both yolks out so will align with themselves. A new part would change that!! just an idea

I think there was a specific master cylinder for this bike with extra angled mount to level the cylinder. sounds like there is air in the system for the lever to pull back like that. if the xs650 has similar bars and is single disk, then you should be ok with that. drewps

that's not too bad 13.5 volts, it is charging. what is the problem exactly? maybe need a new battery if its not holding a charge!

don't forget to keep the BS number on the can or it will fail the MOT!! I'm sure you won't be too "baffled" with the next stage

jay why are you worried about an overflow pipe. the issue here is you have a fuel leak and its usually down to float valve wear or crap in the fuel preventing a seal! either wy you MAY get away with tapping the carb body to seat the valve, failing that you need to strip the carbs down and replace the valves. Get the kits from when donw ensure you have fitted an inline fuel filter, those are easier to change than stripping carbs! drewps

i'd look at the battery as these have a short life. you may get 12v but its the amps you need. best way to check its taking a charge, is to rev the bike at 3k and put a multimeter on the battery terminals. you should be getting 13 to 14 half volts!! other than that there is a charging issue or the battery is kaputt!
