the kicker is not affected by the sprag clutch (or lack of), you need a working transmission clutch for it to work though as it runs through there on the right hand side to the right hand crank. BTW the rear wheel axle thread (or front this is from memory) fits on the end of the stator flywheel after removing the central bolt, a little tap on the stator with a rubber hammer and it should fly off

really, that's your first post? you want a free engine rebuild from a nearby mechanic on an undisclosed make and model. Mr Haynes can show you how but the book is around £17

sunday ride out with Tommy and Jim
met up with Tommy and his son Jim at Lymm services late morning for a foray into Matlock Bath. I took them vai macc and the A54 "south of macc" to top of cat and fiddle, a much better road and no speed cameras. Was very greasy as they had overnight rain. the via Velia was shut butthey didn't tell us till 1/2 way down so took a left and went down a cracking B raod to Bakewell then down the A6 to Matlock. Home was through Ashbourne and onto the A515 we managed to experience the 4 seasons ( not Vivaldi) showers in macc sunshine in Matlock hail stones on cat and fiddle we also met 3 members of a rock group

starter may just need a strip and clean up. sometimes the earth isn't too good, check the metal ground is clean. does the starter lead get warm?

Yamaha XS250
the bikes have a dipstick, which is hard to find as NLA there is supposed to be oil in the stator, just put on main stand and only a trickle will come out. for the starter clutch to slip its two things; 1) not enough power/torque to engage the starter pins 2) the pins have worn flat and won't spin out to lock the clutch up. kits can be bought from wemoto or yambits http://yambits.co.uk/xs400-starter-clutch-repair-kit-p-11137.html the 400 is the same as the 250 BTW

Any 79 ish Yam XS250 owners?
get yourself over to xs400.com loads of reading there. the 400 running gear is the same in their respective years . depends on what you want it to do? restore, update or just a runner?

46k is nothing for these machine, peeps do 100k and so long as oil is changed regulary, you should be fine. As said get on Carpe-TDM, lots of advice there and also JBX site http://www.tdm-yamaha.890m.com/index.php who is also a member of Carpe
