  1. what you should have done is; loosen the lower allen bolt under the bottom fork. or it'll just turn the damper with the forks still in the bike and the wheel on, flick off the plastic cap and press the metal plug down (may need to use kinetic energy to start it(a mallet) as they corrode there. with the cap pressed down against the fork spring (its hard) get the missus to use a terminal driver to dislodge the clip ( it'll ping off so do it in a garage) CAUTION; be careful as the cap may jam and then suddenly let go the first one i did, i had to give to an engineers who turned out the cap on a lathe as it was that corroded in! if you can understand how I did the above, maybe you can work out a way of getting that cap moving with damaging the damper rod! maybe re-fitting temporaily back into the lower fork?
  2. the mm should be cast on the body 12mm methinks

  4. you need my wife to do that. she's a dab hand as I've rebuilt 3 different xs forks! question, how did you take off the seals with the stantions in place? you said you had stripped the forks

CBD, I thought you use avgas especially with a 15:1 compression ratio enjoy your ride out, seems the weathers going to be good! I was on a downer, till early this evening when Mike phoned me to say that he has 2 free tickets for the BSB this weekend that's pit passes and hospitality for 3 days, but only going sunday as work and scouts saturday! weekend sorted
  9. the spring is stepped so its dead easy to remove!! remove that and get a piece of rag or flat wood to stop the alloy on the bottom leg from being damaged. use a pry bar under the lip of the seal and push the other end down to lever out. sometimes i've had to pick out the seal in bits and use heat to soften the rubber and tease it out!
  10. i was talking spoke wheels with disks. the E models (economy) had drum front and rear
  11. 007 get all the fasteners soaked in penetrating fluid, before you start on the bike. Get an impact driver so you don't chew up those head screws. could be looking at a rebore at the very least drewps
  12. £150 sounds a good deal to me!
  13. the only direct replacement wires for the xs is the xs250 UK models. the rd's and xs650's have a bigger spindle, but if you got the money and the inclination do it! BTW you are talking £1000 here in machining costs and buying the wheels. my xs250 ones with new spokes and rims were £800 also you have a 16" rear wheel, so bear that in mind if replacing rims
  14. I remembered the FJ there as well. Man, you should have said hello and we would have treated you like one of the boys. ( gotten the piss taken out of you ) 'nother vid from the 350b guy
