  2. why are you showing video of a car and a different bike? your totally throwing me off just undo the freeking points cover, take off the contacts plate, undo the 10mm bolt on the end of the camshaft. lube up the pivots and check for rubbing. replace and retime/set the points.

  6. are you sure you have an xs400 manual? no needle bearings in the top end, the cam runs directly in the head! no govenor rod (whatever that is) don't forget this is a sohc model not the later dohc the advance mech is the second picture! is that the actual picture of your bike?
  7. its on the bike mate, not in a book ignition, its behind that finned cover top of engine, you only need the haynes to do the timming!

  10. try locating the noise with a screwdriver touching the engine and the handle in the ear. doesn't sound good, like a dry bearing! is the oil light lit then goes out when started? have you got enough oil in the engine? measured when the dipstick is resting on top of the threads!! could also be the end camshaft advance mechanism, might just need to strip and oil!
  11. KN nice the xs750's , thoses carbs look like they'll need stripping and cleaning
  12. and never, NEVER, throw anything away even if it looks irreparable you might need it for comparison sakes

  15. you'll be ok to take out the kick shaft, it should just pull out when you have the cover off!, why not put an oil temp gauge in there using a 45' elbow?

  22. nice to see John OT and CBdave today. CBD looked absolutly knackered all day! I did offer him a room for the night but he didn't trust me Got a puncture 10 mile from home so called carole nash and had a brew in the local pub got back within the hours I suspect CBD is still howling around the moors, thanks to mike for guiding him to Oldam the land of 6am t-shirted pizza eating lassies (ask dave) TTFN off to get a tikka massala
