  1. mine (xs400)does that occasionally, its a contact on the other end of the gear change drum that must get a bit of swarf or oil to create a contact. Mind you, it is 32 years old
  2. they sound like the xs400 forks. I use the wife to pick out the little circlip with a terminal driver. I push down really hard on the fork cap with a heavy duty screwdriver so she can get to the circlip. It then flies across the garage and I spend 1/2 hour looking for it. if the cap won't budge, i nod my head and the wife hits it with a mallet!
  3. depends how you ride, emergency braking won't be the same, but carefully set up with decent liners they will be ok. check for ovality, they can be skimmed and thick shoes manufactured to fit the bigger drum.

  11. too much oil pressurises the case and blows the oil seals and could also put a fair amount of pressure under the piston, something has to give!

  14. we don't have mac pipes here in the UK. mostly Motad and Neta. I seem to remember that they can easily rust! Motads are stainless (crap grade though) Marvin seem to be a good make.

  18. they are buggers to remove, the last hubs i got,someone got them out (there is an extractor tool)and replaced with rubber bobbins. part on ebay unless they are really soft, I would'nt bother replacing them
  19. got it from ebay XR750 copy I belive hand made to cover the ATE master cylinder (you not read my thread on this?) just changed the pegs that's what I'm doing

    you really need to get the timing done right. opening up the points "a bit" is not accurate enough!
  21. schweeeet! I think it should be 2.15" front (from memory) and 2.5" rear I'd get new rims and spokes anyway and treat the hubs to vapour blast and paint. guess who's got 4 nos dampers for the rear hub?
