  2. Dave FRZ Al is the guy in the know on FZR's (i'd guess) Paul what's that crappy link you put in, don't work!
  3. certainly in racing, need to check the regs though as if in the proddy class there's not a lot you can do! CRMC are the body that introduced the new proddy class for 80's sports bikes.
  4. the bit about tuning I picked up off t'internet. I did read that a few peeps have started racing the fz600 in a classification. So in the near future there will be more info out there.

its a CVT, but you need to tune it to the revs vs power of the engine. the front variator has rollers in it ( different weights to alter acceleration characteristics, engine side) which push the two halves together forcing the V belt to rise and gives it the final top speed. the rear has a clutch/variator operated by centrifugal force which I put a stronger Red contra spring in. this holds the other variator at the back down to keep engine revs up. then there's' the clutch springs themselves which pull against centrifuge so bites at certain revs. too early and the motor will bog being out of its power band, too late and it'll rev its arse off. its quite a setup!

as I've said in the text, its not mine I'm doing it for a friend and learn about mending hair dryers its been interesting especially the variator side and how it works!
  7. Slom, wouldn't mind seeing a picture of you vespa
  8. As it happens, I just got an official Yam service manual for the fz600 (in anticipation, thanks Brownie). A 1986 edition no less. stock fork length is 517.5mm or 20.4". min free length 512.5 (19") the engine is an XJ600 and gas flowing and Neta exhaust seems to be the favoured route with a stage 3 dynojet!

  11. Elffie good buy there, give it a service and probably have to strip the carbs as full of gunge (modern ethanol fuel to blame)

Just put the engine in the Aprilia SR50 and the engines runs! that's a relief, not the same when it is someone else's motor. bought a cheap barrel and piston kit from Poland via eBay and had to modify/chamfer the ports a bit and got a spannie off gumtree for a 125 and got that to fit with a bit of welding. Carb spews out fuel on over flow, so need to check that and just need to dial in the jetting. hopefully the Mallossi variator mod will work as advertised! need to strip the front caliper and paint it and bleed brakes new fork oil etc and should be good to go!
  14. its sick from the night before
  15. its ok to pack the baffles with glass, its what normally happens anyway. Just check for any performance deterioration as you may run a bit rich.
