  4. if you have the electro mechanical voltage regulator, you can adjust it. you need a healthy battery to have good charging as that is the way the system works. you have 3 white wires from the stator to rectifier and 2 green from the field coil. the field coil is fed by the voltage regulator and is really an electro magnet and more or less current produces the right amount of charging for the battery depending on its state of discharge!

good short, I just kept thinking why didn't his hat blow off at those speeds then it irked me!
  6. mines fine, in fact its better than some modern bikes I've ridden! to get to 2nd to 1st, you have to push down twice, not jump on it to get it there. There is a pawl and ratchet which has to return to its central position before hooking onto the next gear/neutral position. A loose rear drive chain gives the worst gear change
  7. Ken, good to have ya here mate
  8. the woodruff key is only there to locate the rotor. Its the taper that grips the rotor and some peeps use grinding paste to get a good key and thus grip (wash off the paste first)

when I rebuilt my engine, I used a mineral oil to enable the rings to bed in as synthetics don't provide the right properties to enable this. I also thrashed it for 20 miles then changed to a semi synth oil and its been fine ever since (6 years)

talking to Paul today, I still have a few patches left. I will bring them to the YOC meet in September and sell to anyone who wants one for cost @ £3. Has anyone stitched theirs on yet? I haven't and I know Paul hasn't. must resolve myself to do it!
