  1. its usually the idle jets that get blocked. try opening up the mix screw which is near the manifold (anticlockwise) if it doesn't make a difference then professional cleaning is the way to go. I sent mine away to cornwall which cost £100 and i also sent new jets. this was back in 2006 so more expensive now. look in xs400.com and you can get an xs teeshirt with "clean them carbs", that's how notorious they are to get right
  2. yea, sounds like a plan, cheers
  3. thoroughly cleaning carbs with air, is not thoroughly cleaning carbs. they need stripping completely and ultrasonic cleaning and poss replacing pilot jets if blocked. the issue is the galleries are so small, that air won't shift the fuel gunk collected over time
  4. I restored a 400 and have a 400 tracker
  5. lovely, a credit to you.
  6. and G'day Brett

geez slice, you don't half pick 'em. Still you're here to tell us and learn (ish) I once had a guy on his phone with a family in the car on the slip road to the motorway, had to bang on his window or I was going to get hit. never saw what he said too busy trying to stay alive and unharmed. Hate motorways, but they have their uses if you need to get somewhere.
  10. just like Eddie. loving the islands then?

I think tommy and I were lucky to do it when we did, wasn't too busy and the weather was ok for us too (ie we didn't get soaked)
  15. I know it smarts, but you were have had to do all that yourself. it wasn't the mechanics who broke it but the age of the bike etc. I did my tdm and it was the sme thing. I boke off 3 exhaust studs and had to drill them out, then the coolant pipe stuck in the head and then I lost the timing and it a pain with a 270' crank. its money vs time as always

Hi Bips, good to hear from you. Most of the gang are still here, missed a cracking meetup at Matlock. Tommy and I did the NC500 this year and picked some great weather. riding abroad is great (did spain last year with Tommy) although what France we did I though they were very ignorant and not very friendly
  17. I don't tend to go shopping on the bike unless its a bike place with plenty of bikers around. Scotland trip big eFF-off chain and padlock to another bike
