  1. always be able to stop within the space that you can see ahead. One of the things that was drummed into me doing the advanced rider. We all make mistakes though
  2. not been to a show for ages. had to trace a short in my bike's wiring. In the end I had to take out the wiring loom, but that's another story
  3. :welcome: try and get a 400 top end at least as the 250 will be underpowered IMHO. that wire bike reminded me of the bosozoku bikes 😆 https://youtu.be/di3U4Nk0ueM?si=I-6xPmfyQLvtTbJS
  4. i PM'd you ages ago and thought you were sorted. I took photos and just need to WhatsApp the photos if you PM your mob number
  5. ok, let me have a gander. weathers been shite atm
  6. I may have an old set from a burned out bike, bodies might be ok. I'm away atm and back sunday evening but off work next week if you want me to look

If I remember correctly an axle bolt fits the rotor. do it up tight and shock it off with a hammer
  9. rebuilt a few xs400's
  10. I would use a heat gun as there may be thread lock on there and should help undo. I've had to jump on my breaker bar in the past
  11. sorry but this section is for form issues not bike issues. I'll move it to the relevant section.
  12. get these from image works http://www.bike-stickers.com/homepage.htm

  14. glad your bonding though, doing your own work can be very satisfying as you care more for your baby than anyone else can. If you can get those mesh covers on your seat, it should stop any pooling of water and hopefully keep you drier in the crotch area if that's what is happening
  15. tracer sounds perfect
  16. try these guys, check out the tank and side covers https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xs500-1977-1h3-europe-1h228-198e5_model37276/partslist/0038.html
  17. xs500 is a curious bike for sure, I think by the D model the head cracking was sorted
  18. I've no idea, have a picture search on google and see what looks great then drill down into the specs
  19. 2 stokes need to back pressure to seal the incoming charge. whacking in the fuel via choke is just masking it. you need to carry out a plug chop, to ascertain the correct mixture and have a load of mains and pilot jets to change fuel delivery.
  20. if battery is good, sounds like the starter is stalled or earthing out bringing down the voltage.
  21. if its getting too much oil, it'll never rev. the engine will 4 stroke as the plug fouls up. My friend had a aprillia RS125 and never revved it. brought it to me as it had no power and I just revved the arse off it out of gear till the plug cleared and it was good to go. you can't dawdle on those things, they are built to be anti social.
  22. I'd give it a go. make sure it mics out with thicknesses and lengths etc. nothing to lose really

I'm sure there's a chart somewhere online that states the equivalent aspect ratio.
