Who said anything about when pushing the bike?? His original post said "but when on side stand the wheel locks and will not budge"

Is it me or does that not make sense?? Why would sticking front brakes make the rear wheel lock solid?

Just a guess but maybe the bikes got a safety feature to stop it rolling when stood on side stand.
  4. ok cheers. I was thinking same but thought would ask because official websites only mention scooter or moped. Maybe they would class a dt50 as a scooter, I wouldn't though

From what I've read, because I passed my car test before 2001 I'm allowed to ride an insured 50cc scooter (31mph limit) on the road without taking any tests, and can do this without L plates for as long as I like. And carry a passenger. But I was wondering does this law mean I can also ride a 50cc motorbike (eg dt50) under the same rules?

Original paint codes are no good if its ever been resprayed a different shade at some point. Easiest thing will be to t-cut a part thats painted and take it to paint shop to have a match made up. These days most halfords stores are able to do good colour matches using an 'electronic eye' tool which shows them how to match the colour.

Well the honda items did fit so saved some hassle and a lot of money! Another thing, before starting on the forks I'd read loads of online guides and everyone mentioned needing special tools and the job been loads of hassle. However, I've stripped mine down and replaced the dust seal, oil seal and both slide bushes and rebuilt the forks without needing any tools other than everyday spanners etc. Seems that the specialist tools are only required if stripping down the internal damper and if its working fine then no need to. The tools can be made by yourself using basic workshop tools etc. Did notice that one fork was down by about 300ml of oil so that would explain the 'interesting' handing

Yea can't wait to start riding again, its fun fixing bike with only left hand, can hold stuff with right one but can't lift, pull, push etc. Just read in local paper today that the local disused quarry is supposedly getting closed off today, they've been trying for past 20 years to stop bikes using it so doubt it'll stop us all. killjoys!!

Found a copy of KYB catalogue and had quick scan through. Their part number for it is 110060001701 and it shows same part number fitted as standard equipment to a few other models and other makes so I think (hope!) the ones I found for sale on ebay for the honda will fit. Fingers crossed Got time to get bike sorted anyway because waiting for my shoulder to heal, oh the joys of falling off

Started to strip down my front forks and discovered one of the top nuts has been previously over-tightened and butchered slightly. Its even more butchered now after trying to get it off, will probably end up cutting it off or something. Anyhow, my question is where to get a new one from cheaply. Bike is a 1999 yz250 and wondering what other makes/models used same part. Are they the same as ones fitted to a honda cr125r 1998-2002? Yamaha's part number is 5DH-23111-L0-00 so far been unable to cross ref part numbers between manufacturers.
  11. Ok thanks. I've had stuff from bitzforbikes before but they only sell the oil seals and dust seals, I'll need both sets of guides too. Seen few different sellers on ebay so could order all bits separate if needed, just I have heard good things about kits made by Pivot Works so will keep eye out.
  12. Anyone know of any UK based companies that sell these kits? Plenty on net but all outside of UK.
  13. 20:1 seems like quite a lot of oil to run, most bikes I've had over years have been 30:1 - 32:1 Is it a haynes manual giving you the info? cos they are not always correct with the info.

Long shot but could it be oil/grease coming from hub axle? Possible that the oil seals failed and stuff coming out when wheels spinning. Maybe someone at some point put oil in the hub during assembly.
  15. I'm not 100% certain but I think the top to bottom stripes are right for a 1981
