FZR woes

I have a 1990 FZR 600 and when I put it in gear the engine cuts out? I was having trouble with it for about a week and found that wiggling the sidestand when it was up worked. Now nothing works. I presumed it was the sidestand witch which has now gone but when a made a loop out of wire to bypass the switch it still cuts out? Is there something I'm missing, is there another engine cutout switch somewhere? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I've been off the road for a couple of weeks now. C>
