These bike never liked being played about with, so could be the air filters as you said. Other thing to try would be to go up a number on the plugs to a hotter one, as this sometimes cures your problem. The best way I find to start my xs500b is full choke no throttle and hit the start button and she fires up no probs. Hope this is of help!
  4. Hi All My question, I need a set of piston rings 3rd over for my dt250mx 1980. Part number starts 2N6 does this just relate to the model i.e if the other numbers match will they be same part? Have seen part 1M1 1161030 on ebay but not 2N6 1161030 so I am thinking that the important stuff is the numbers after the 1st 3 digits. Any help very helpful, or does any one have a set collecting dust?

  7. Hi All I want to paint my 1980 DT250MX cylinder head as per factory colour (think it's satin black), now here's my question do I just buy some high temp paint like PJ1 and pop it in the oven to cure? can it really be that simple or I am I being simple! Will be taking off the old paint with paint stripper and wire brush.
  8. Does any one know of any motorcycle maintenance courses in Central Scotland Evenings or weekends? Thanks to all who reply
  9. Hi Mark I am restoring same bike as well and have taken out the oil pump, think 20:1 might be a bit smoky but wont do any harm. Just starting to strip and it down at the moment, hardest part was finding the side panels! good luck sandy
  10. Forgot to say, have a look at this site they do some external parts. http://enginescrewkit.free.fr/xs50076_78.htm
  11. Try http://www.nrp-carbs.co.uk/ I bought a carb kit from them worked great. Didn't find ny one that did external bits thought. Best bet would be to buy a refurbished set, have seen a few on ebay. Think the c&d carbs should work fine they are better than the b models, but check the inlet fittings. Good luck, with the bike.
