Hi All....good to be back Thinking of fitting speed bleeders to my brake calipers, but I am bit confused as to what size I need for my xs500b twin front discs. There are a set on ebay- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400047506886&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT which are M8 x1.25, but on yambits the standard bleed nipples are M8 x 1 will I still be able to use the one's with the extra .25 pitch? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-XS650-XS500-XS-BLEED-NIPPLE-NLA-YAMAHA-/270727761302?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3f08a1cd96 Thanks in advance.....oh and has anyone used the speed bleeders, any good?

What ever you do avoid bennetts, I have just had the most awful time with them went to put a 2nd bike on my policy was told a price over 12 months agreed, next thing I am getting letters (without prior warnings) from there dept recovery that I owe £30 for cancelling my original policy, which they said they would wave, then I get the new policy through and its more per month over 10 months. Have spent all morning on the phone with them trying to sort it out..........still not there yet the girls parting words were can you phone US back, when I said no I think you should be phoning me back I was told they only have incoming phones absolute crap and I will be taking my biz someware else. I feel better now after my rant! Sorry Paul for hijacking your post....but watch out for any cancellation fees if you go somewhere else.

Coils failed after 50 miles..... It has been over a year since I bought them but I have been trying for about 10 months to get this sorted, they have never replied to my email or recorded letters. Trading standards are now looking into this for me.
  4. I stripped al the parts of my DT250 and put them with out any rubber bits in a pan with lemon juice (that jiff stuff you get at the supermarket) simmer for 5 mins and drain! Came out a treat, with dull finish but polished up great. When cool blasted out all the holes with a small can of compressed air.

Hi All......and good afternoon Has anyone had problems with PA-Motorcylces of Ashbourne Derbyshire? I bought some coils from them way back in June last year which turned out to be faulty, every time I email then about a refund they just ignore me, have even sent a recorded letter also ignored! Just wondered if any members have had a similar experience, I for one will never buy or recommend them again!
  6. Hi I had a similar problem with my dt250mx. Check out my post on another site, would think your dt has the same set-up. http://www.aircooledrdclub.org.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=24037&PID=180444#18044

Hi Dt400 is a rare bike...... I am nearing the end of my DT250MX restoration which is more or less the same apart from engine. Decals you will get from http://www.reproductiondecals.com Re your fender you will be hard pushed to find a nos one but ebay always has a good selection of parts search dt250.
  11. Hi Thanks for replying, don't have much of an appetite for an engine out job! just want to get riding as I have spent all winter getting it ready and thought when I stared it it would be straight down to the mot station. So just want to get the seals done the easiest way I can.
  12. Hi Yes I have an air leak and it's pointing to the crank seals.
  13. Hi All I ave a dt250mx (1980) and need to change the crank seals, now I have never done this before or stripped an engine this far. So my questions are: How do I do it, is it just a matter of taking it apart and carefully noting the procedure and then putting it back together. Do I have to split the cases or can the be done from the outside. Ad last do I need any special tools. Oh and if any one has a step by step guide.........(think that's asking to much). Thanks an hope I don't sound to much of a muppet!!
  14. I had one, bloody fast it was too couldn't keep the front wheel down! Bought brand spanking in 1989 (blue) to get me through the traffic in London, had it un-restricted good for 90 mph with my head down. Happy days!!

Great thanks will give it a try, this is now uncharted territory for me is it a big job to change the crank seals? Also with it reving without any oil going in should I put some in with the petrol to be on the safe side. Thanks for all your help, most appreciated.

Thanks......was thinking it might be the crank seals as everything else checks out new gasket on read valve & cylinder. What's the rough and read way to check the crank seals?

Just my small fingers......have tried adjusting the throttle stop screw when running it has no affect, also just noticed that it is not taking in any oil from the autolube but maybe it wouldn't as the throttle is in the closed position?
  19. happysnapper replied to happysnapper's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
Just checked that and the slider does bottom out.......with about a finger space at the bottom.

Hi All After months (bought last year as a no-runner) rebuilding my DT250MX (1980) and with the sun finally out, I thought now would be a good time to try and start it up! So fresh petrol battery charged sort of, kicked it over after a few kicks it burst in to life, straight to 8000 rpm and stayed there, flick the throttle and nothing happened. So took carb off checked rubbers for leaks and adjusted float height (16mm) put it back on and same problem, any and all ideas welcome. Cheers sandy

Hi All and Merry Christmas....... My DT250MX (1980) is leaking petrol where the petcock attaches to the tank, I have replaced the rubber seal on the petcock and stripped back the paint to try yo get a good seal but with no success. It looks like the tank has been messed about with at some point and is a wee bit bashed at the conncection. Is there any sealant I can use round the petcock to get a seal that is petrol resistant and flexible? Thanks sandy
  22. Very nice, if mine come up that good I will be pat myself on the back.
  23. Hi All All going to plan with my restoration of a DT250MX (1980),finished painting the engine and exhaust, new piston rings, everything polished and cleaned where needed. Boiled carb and other parts in lemon juice (without rubbers) worked a treat. reconnected the autolube set cable fitted all new pipes (clear for the one going into the carb) and bled the oil. Now getting ready to paint the front and rear fenders, which had been previously painted, paint had cracked all over, so have taken off with paint stripper. To avoid previous which would be the best type of spray paint to use, has anyone had any success/reccomendations in this. Will be painting it white. Thanks in advance.
