  1. I don't think you will get one from the States some U.S. riders have same issue and been told new bags... http://forums.delphi...=relevance&be=0 Look for either screws, dowel pins or wire. And stick a blob of clear sealant on the end to stop coming loose. How old is your bike and were the bags on the bike when you bought it? If the bike came with the bags then the accessories should be covered by the bike's warranty (if not their own). I would contact Yamaha direct and ask them for some otherwise tell them they're cr@p!
  2. If there's no dipstick there'll be a sight glass located near the bottom of the bike (usually the side of the oil cover you unsrewed). All my Yammy bikes have a sight glass. You should run the engine til warm then shut it off and let it settle for about 5 mins. The bike should then be held upright and you can then check the level (a friend may be of assistance here). There's usually 2 marks on or next to the glass to indicate the oil min and max and it should be somewhere in between them. This site has an XJ750 Owners maintenance manual (when on CTRL + F type in XJ750 and click the green button) http://www.classiccy.../1852/1936.html
  3. Late reply but: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/RidingMotorcyclesAndMopeds/DG_4022568 Looks like if the test was passed on a 100cc bike you're restricted to a maximum of 125cc. To ride any bike you must do the test on at least 120-125cc then wait the obligatory 2 years/age restriction, or do the test on a 500cc as per the above link.
  4. +1 to 95 octane... your bike will run better (& its cheaper). I use Muc-Off Miracle Shine wax which does a good job.

    Pikey trikey!!

I prefer Goldwing trikes such as this... and will probably get one when my knee gives up http://www.colinappl...3429_MB_056.jpg
  6. I was told to completely take off my flip-up helmet at the local tesco before they'd let me fill up (put it back on before I went into the shop to pay...) I also had a fella trying to put diesel in his 4x4 whilst I was USING the unleaded - don't think he quite realised how pumps work??
  7. Wish I was mate, but am recovering from surgery on my hand so am not riding at the moment... fortunately the bike's stuck in the dealer's for a replacement rear pulley (they scratched it at tyre change).so its not too bad... There was an attempt to get an XVS1300 meet up at somepoint this year but not much interest, maybe its something that can be arranged next year? hope it was a good run out

    About time

I bet if the police saw you undertaking they'd pull you for that rather than deal with those causing you to undertake. I honestly believe middle lane hoggers plodding along at 65mph cause much of the congestion we face as it essentially changes the 3 lane motorway into 2 lanes. I'm also seeing more and more cars sit in the outside lane around here who don't even move over for ambulances with lights on until its right up their a$$. Makes me mad!! I think if road conditions are good and its safe to do so then driving/riding at a higher speed is ok, but it depends on conditions... unfortunately some see the speed LIMIT as a minimum speed (regardless of weather or other road users) whilst others just ignore changes in speed limits and go 35mph in 60 zones - all need to be taught how to drive properly

It doesn't make any sense that a 3 lane motorway should have the same speed limit as a 2 lane dual carriageway... It's a fact of life that a lot of people do 80mph anyway and the police don't act until you hit 90mph. If the police still enforce the 90mph 'limit' then I don't really see any difference in this change other than we won't see people slamming on brakes everytime they see a police car or speed camera.
  10. That is scandelous!!! Birmingham City Council ought to be ashamed of itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True, true. I'm in no doubt the motivation behind this is to raise more money & they can do so with the (unknowing) support of the public, but a lot people drive at 80 anyway and they could have gone the other way and enforced a strict 70mph or you get a fine (imagine a network of average speed cameras along the lenght of the motorway... that'll be next & eventually they'll be used for charges/tolls on the motorway)

Looks like the govt is finally doing something useful and considering raising the motorway speed limit to 80mph -- long overdue IMHO... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15116064 Now if they can only sort out the useless drivers who sit in the middle lane...!
  13. Congratulations fella. Glad you passed + had a good time on your trip. Ride safe & do stick around

    Barmy EU plans

Here's a link to the govt's consulation paper http://www.dft.gov.u...ons/dft-2011-26 It looks as though they oppose some of the measures though not all. It invites you to comment on the proposals... This also makes an interesting read:
  15. Good!! Tell them I think the same... I'd suggest they change the rim to a 180 on future models (or whatever the 1100 uses)
  16. I don't know how to do it... i doubt anyone will post step by step instructions for anyone to see (I don't want that info on a public forum so some scroat can read it then nick my bike!!) Have you contacted a Yamaha dealer? They can probably fix it for you and help keep your bike safe.
  17. I believe Midnight's tyre is the correct size, 170/70 - 16. It's just a radial tyre... after doing some research on 180 tyres I can understand why UK insurance companies would be reluctant [change of tyre profile etc] I am sure so long as the tyre size is correct and the tread depth is legal it wouldn't be an issue... (at least not unless those EU plans are passed)
  18. 3 rides this year, Washington Services A1, Southbound (Durham) to Catterick Garrison (motorway) Squires Cafe to Catterick Garrison (motorway) Harrogate to Catterick Garrison (125cc and learners only non-motorway) Here's the link: http://www.rideofhonour.co.uk/2012/registration-page/ Will be good to see as many of you there as possible Graham

    Barmy EU plans

http://epetitions.di...petitions/14227 You can find and contact your MEPs here: http://www.europarl.org.uk/section/your-meps/your-meps#
  20. I nod to every bike and scooter, even trikes. Some nod back some don't but guess that's life? Sometimes I'm only aware of another bike on the opposite side of the road literally as we pass due to heavy traffic so don't get chance to nod at them but wonder if they think I'm a miserable... (I tend to forward nod though occasionally side nod + if more than one bike passing left hand up).

    Restricter Kit

You'll soon get used to it and just think how great it will seem when you're restriction comes off (it does pass quickly)
  22. Try this - it might help? http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_175090.pdf

    Tyres

I put Dunlop Roadsmarts on mine. Slightly more expensive than above but heard good things about them.
  24. Hi Humphrey, Check out - it's based in the U.S but Shane is a great guy + will answer any questions you have about any of the prducts. And it'll work out cheaper to import yourself than buy over here. Graham
