Thanks for all that but the carbs have been off, cleaned and re balanced it does accelerate fine up to about 50 and then moves up slowly to approx 60 and then will not go any faster it feels like it wants to but seems to cut in and out if I slow down it will again ride fine up to 50 acceleration is good I was wondering if it could be something like the coil breaking down under load? but I know a lot more about car engines than I do bikes. Compression test all seems in order. Gary

Hi I have just put a 1989 XJ600 back on the road after it has been standing for a number of years, I have got it running ok and it accelerates fine up to about 50 to 60 MPH and then it seems reluctant to go any faster does anyone out there recognise the symptoms if so any help would be gratfully accepted Thanks Gary

Thats correct I was just asking if the blocked pilot jets would cause this I was thinking that by spraying petrol into the air intake, like you do easy start, this might bypass the pilot jets or do you think I need to look deeper into the carburetors. Thanks

Thanks for that do you think that these jets being blocked would be enough to restrict the fuel to stop all the cylinders from firing?

Hi all Can someone please tell me if there is a small hole through the pilot jet I have removed them from the carbs of an 89 XJ600 they all seem very solid so not sure if there is a hole or not. The bike has been standing for 5 years and although I have managed to get it started it is only firing on 2 unless I spray petrol into the air intake when the bike picks up ok. All help gratefully received Thanks Gary
