  3. well if it isnt leaking oil, it would have to be burning it surely :/ top it up and leave the bike running, if you cant see it leaking look for black smoke coming from the exhaust which indicates burning oil
  4. put it this way, my DT was in very good condition, had a 65cc big bore kit, bigone exhaust and expansion pipe, cone filter and about 38,000 on the clock, i put it on gumtree for £350 and within a few hours someone rang me up and near bit my hand off for it. a good condition original spec DT can go for around £500, best thing to do is look on eBay for DT50s, click "completed listings" under the preferances and see what they have been selling for
  5. i broke a piston ring on my DT50 once and it dropped into the engine, i literally turned the bike upside down, gave it a shake and then counted the bits that fell out to make sure that they were all out, if you have the engine out of the bike its even easier, but seeing as it has "blown up" i would split the cases anyway and remove the fragmentation that has no doubt surely found its way into your sump

  8. That'd be great if you could ask bud, if they are cheaper than the vistaprint ones then it would be great to save a bit of money, all the details should be in the t-shirt thread but if there's anything else you need to know send me a pm
  9. the adjuster will help move the lever to a position more comfortable but if there is movement in the lever it is probably worn (and considering that bike is 21 years old, it almost definately is worn). caliper seals arent expensive so it may be worth doing those whilst your at it, all the crap and corrosion builds up behind the seals and squeezes the piston against the rubber which causes binding in the brake disks

  11. even if that was the case, there are bound to be many many salvageable parts that could bring other RXS' back to life
  12. stainless brake lines are a worthy investment for this bike as the disks are plenty large enough to give good braking, a new set of seals for the brake master cylinder will set you back about £50, with that many miles on the clock i wouldnt be surprised if the gear linkage has worn and the hole become elongated, i was planning to bore my lever out and press in a bush of the correct size but never got around to it

  14. +1 for the extractor drills, i.e. "Easy out" sets. make sure you know the size of the screw or the part number before you extract it, im not familiar with your bike type but if it is a bleed JET and has a hole in it as soon as you use an extractor on it you will need to replace it as it is no longer a metered size. good luck to you

Hi there, welcome to the forum, First of all, there is definately a small amount of play in the system before the drive even counts because in theory as you change up a gear the geartrain is wanting to overtake you in order to catch up with the rest of the drivetrain but that isnt a mechanically proven concept, but electrical tape wound around the cush drives doesnt sound right, aslong as you have changed that that's basically all you can do with my XJ, it always had a bit of a clunk into first, a lot of it is due to your perception on selecting a gear, you wait until the revs are at a certain point before selecting that gear, within a month of riding that bike on a regular basis you WILL know when/where that bike wants a gear or when/where you shouldnt be changing gear

Slight update peeps, i robbed the top-end off the other DT50 i bought for spares so fingers crossed it should be ready to run (going to have to move it outside though as the residents of the block wouldnt appreciate a two-stroke smokescreen methink, it also appears that this bike has 3 destinctive colours, a black tank which shouldnt be too big a problem to respray, a blue headlight which was my donkeys' original colour, a white rear mudguard that has been painted grey and a black front mudguard, i would really really like to get it back to the original soft blue colour but i was wanting to know what the best way is for stripping paint off plastic parts? and indeed applying paint to plastic parts? not sure what the paint code is, but after spending the last couple of hours surfing google i suspect it may be "peacock blue"
  20. welcome to the forum LUke, i had a 1989 Yamaha DT50MX when i was 16, kept it for just over a year and sold it to buy a car , now im 20 and i bought 2 spares or repair DT50s
  21. well that's the thing, i have to get the pre-orders, with the shirts it was a little more complicated because i had to preorder in sizes, colour and any custom text needed. i can probably get a local print firm to sort it although until i know for sure how many people are going to be wanting calenders i cant get a definate price. also as was the case with t-shirts, 26 people wanted to order one (or two in some cases) but when it actually came to ordering them only 11 people went through with the order, if i had preordered 26 t-shirts i would probably still have half of them or be waiting for payment from the other people
