you think them brakes are bad, wait 'till you try the brakes on my DT... scary at the best of times

xt125x
on my DT it had a 10 front and 52 rear and was doing 35 flat out, im now running a 14 front and 48 rear and can get 45-50mph on a good day most people say go up 2 teeth a time, i personally have tried that method and found it to be absolute shite on these small bikes. go down to say, a 45 on the rear and a 16 on the front and see how you get on dont forget to change the chain when you do the sprockets as they will last longer when changed as a set
-
xt125x
LOL, my DT50 does 50 on a good day . what sprockets are you running?, changing to a larger front sprocket can make a world of difference and on a 125cc you should have enough power to still get good performance. addition of a free-flowing exhaust and K&N filter will also increase power output (make sure you add bigger jets to your carb)

have had a look on the MB website and i can't seem to find any 350 style parts on it that i need will have a look at the carbon brushes tomorrow when it is light outside... too cold to go and play in the garage now. nice loud horn on it aswell, maybe i will get heard instead of laughed at as i do with my DTs' 6v horn EDIT: Pics added in the gallery

worst injury
was going along a street covered with ice last week (i was late for school and was maybe pushing it a little). the car infront of me braked and pulled onto the kerb to park. i put the brakes on, front wheel locked and next thing i know is im on my ass skidding along the road. i pick the bike up and its fine, decided to walk it from there as the school was only round the corner and the worst part, i put a scratch in my BRAND NEW WEEK OLD LEATHER JACKET! . other than that, worst bike-related injury was riding in jeans because i was "just nipping into town", hit a bit of ice on the roundabout and went over onto my left knee, had some road rash, a limp and a big black bruise for about a month afterwards. now i ride with head-to-toe protection. (once bitten, twice shy and all that lark)

I gots me a Jawa :D
Its a "Jawa 350 Style" and from what i can see there arent any breaks in the wiring and the alternator looks okay. its a right PITA to start and usually involves running up and down the road with it for 10 minutes, if/when i can be bothered to go through the whole routine again i will test the alternator to see if there is anything coming out of it, if their isnt then that's my problem... ... btw, how do i test the alternator? its all a learning curve i suppose... haven't joined the Jawa owners club yet, was kinda hopeing they would have a forum but its not listed on their website haven't found a manual yet

picked up the new battery today and fitted it, also drained the tank and added fresh petrol with 25:1 oil mix, cleaned the carb out and put some redex in the carb bowl aswell, and after much more running up and down the street and kicking it furious it DID fire up in the biggest cloud of white smoke you've ever seen. after it had warmed up and p*ssed off the neighbours the smoke died down but its running lean, when you first start it the revs go up to about 4/5k and after about 10 seconds they work their way down to 3K, then if you turn the choke off i can get it to idle around 1.5/2k, but the revs are all over the place and it only seems to be firing on the left-hand cylinder as the right-hand one does not smoke from the exhaust, and only when you rev it up does it smoke from both exhausts. however, when you put the choke on it revs up to about 4k also, when revving it up if you open it to WOT straight away it will die down and cut out, if you gradually work your way to full throttle it will rev up and then hold the high revs even with the throttle closed right back. found the problem though, the little rubber bush that goes over the carb manifold and bolts into the reed block seems to have perished and is a bit of a loose fit, will see if i can find a similar/same replacement on the 'net Now, second problem: it doesnt charge the battery when its running, after a few minutes the voltage drops to 7v and if you put the lights on, sound the horn or do anything else involving electricity it dies

the only two that were badly rusted on were the ones under the rear wheel that hold the mudguard onto the fairing. how can i tell if tis magneto ignition or not?... theres a pretty chunky alternator on the right-hand side of it by the looks of things... that count for anything?

Old style V5?
oh okay, will go into the post office tomorrow whilst i am in town getting a new battery are they going to ask me for my driving licence number, MOT certificate and all that other shite like when i went to pay my bike tax? i am in the process of applying for a new licence as i lost my old one and my Government Gateway card when my wallet got lost

Old style V5?
Hi everyone. work is progressing on my Jawa and hopefully with the addition of a charged battery it will run. it currently has an old style V5 certificate, and also, the previous owner is now deceased so i can't get his signature for the declaration of sale. so... how do i go about getting a new V5C in my name? regards Steveo
-
Title Question
where is it stamped?, on the bike or on the V5C? it isnt a legal requirement to list the mileage on the V5C certificate so i sohuldn't think there would be any problems registering it, your insurance premium may increase though if it has had a shunt and been written off. perhaps a little info abojt the bikes history?, is it a writeoff and is the V5C present?

i would have prefered a bollocking... usually if she is all quiet it means she is planning something big and there is going to be trouble later... dont think it is a mag ignition, though im not 100% sure how to tell... theres a weird little black box thing wired onto the alternator and into the rest of the loom and a lot of other electrical bits behind one fo the side panels, so far ive identified the regulator/rectifier unit, a relay/contacts for something and a couple of other gizmos i havent had a good look at yet

my secret has been rumbled... she went into the garage to get something whilst i was at work and saw the bike in there under the cover, she was surprisingly calm and just said "by the way, i've seen the new bike in the garage..."... which is probably a lot worse than if she had bollocked me outright... Tested for spark and there is none visible from either spark plug, resistance is about 12k on both HT leads with killswitch on and infinite with killswitch off. tried putting the plug from my DT50 in there and even that won't spark, so looks like ive got me an ignition fault. whilst i was in the garage i stripped the panels off and had a good look, fair amount of rust on most of the nuts and bolts so i think i will put all new bolts on it when i re-assemble it. the battery looks pretty much shot as its all sulphated inside, so i may aswell get a new one of those tomorrow when i got to pick up my new DT battery from probike. most of the wiring is in tact and in pretty good condition, except the rear left indicator which isn't connected but that shouldn't take long to hook up. even found a bottle of castrol 75w gear oil under the seat all in all i'm rather happy with my new peashooter...

will drag it out on monday when 'er indoors is at work and see what i can do with it. really need to give it a very good clean so i can see what im doing did manage to pump up the tyres and free up the back brake whilst i was out there tonight though, so im getting somewere its the first bike ive owned that has a centre stand... and its surprisingly heavy i have the compulsive urge to put a dixie horn, heated grips and some other crap on it and go touring around europe!

shes likely to stick a plug in each of my ears and crank the b*gger round with that big ol' foot of hers... The painter is coming round tomorrow to paint the living room, and for some reason needs to use the garage

I gots me a Jawa :D
just went outside to tinker with it... drained the tank and put a little bit of fresh pre-mix petroil in, but alas it wont go from what i can tell its getting fuel, there is loads and loads of compression (my leg does hurt a lot now) and despite me kicking it as hard as i can and running up and down the street with it, it just wont run couldn't really check the spark as i can't kickstart it and look underneath at the plug at the same time, will have to take it to my dads in the week and maybe give it a really good bumpstart towing it behind the car, other than that it's okay, maybe a respray in order and tidy up the header pipes a bit, but otherwise its a nice little bike

I gots me a Jawa :D
just went and picked it up, the guy did find the V5C in the end so i dont have to fill out all the forms and pay the £25 to get a new one. 2 previous owners, 13k on the clock, two flat tyres but otherwise okay. one neat feature is the "Oilbath" chain guard system, its basically like the whole chain and sprocket system is covered by a plastic guards to keep all the sh*t out. had to park the van around the corner and make a mad dash for the garage, but all in all it was a success... so tomorrow i will work on getting it running, send off the V5C, get a new set of tyres on order, change all the various oils and fluids and get it moved down to my mates house before 'er indoors realises i've bought another one. im quite chuffed with my new peashooter, can't wait to get it running

I gots me a Jawa :D
just got off the phone, picking it up tomorrow, im riding over to my dads straight after i finish school (3:25) be in hungerford before 4PM, chuck the DT in the van, up to swindon for 5PM, chuck the Jawa in the van and hopefully back to newbury for 6PM and in the garage before 'er indoors catches wind of it... will have to park the van 'round the corner and shove the Jawa straight in the garage... then its just a matter of keeping it on the down-low for a few weeks and hopeing she doesn't notice... got a reciept so hopefully wont have to pay for a V5C, then i just need to declare it SORN and start tinkering away

TW200 need to perk it up
New exhaust and free-flowing air filter will help the engine breathe better and improve overall performance, and they are easy enough to do. (make sure you jet your carb accordingly) up from there would be a bigger carb, timing, ignition and fueling changes e.t.c

Newbie. The ugliest 'Blade you ever saw!
nice bike you got there, im still on my first DT at the moment but can't wait to hop onto something bigger whats with the "'Blade" in the title?.

DT50MX Tuning issues (again)
that was what i thought but i dont want to down-size the main jet because it is running just about right at the top-end and if i put a smaller jet in it is likely to run lean and chew up a second big bore. so how do i adjust the low/mid range without changing the main jet?, something to do with the pilot jet or a mixture screw somewere?

DT50MX Tuning issues (again)
Running a K&N filter, carb bowl has been htoroughly cleaned with carb cleaner and is free from sh*t and debris, HT coil is fine as it was running okay on the standard 50cc bore. methink its tuning, most likely rich because it becomes a lot more responsive when i turn the fuel tap off for a few seconds
