  1. we get posting "preferances", id quite like to be at Benson, Brize Norton, Lyneham or somewhere down south so i can still be near my family (the strongest tree is held on the same ground in which he was sown)
  2. Janie - Which intake is he going on?, im currently on Beckett intake 3 weeks into the 9 week course just about to finish my phase 1 training and go play with the rock apes (RAF regiment) for 3 weeks, i'll keep an eye out next week though also, some advice for your step lad; get all your kit labeled the night you get it (Day 01) Never say sorry to any of the instructors/NCOs, all you need to say is "Yes corporal" or "No corporal" Dont fidget or talk when outside. they will notice and you will get bollocked Also, the Phys.Ed staff will beast the living shite out of you for the first two weeks, after that they arent so bad
  3. if the engine is running backwards then that would explain the lumpy starting/running, could be caused by extremely advanced ignition timing causing the fuel mixture to pre-detonate and the engine to run backwards, i used to have this trouble when hand-starting model aircraft engines, a common remedy was to open the throttle and drop it back to idle very quickly which would usually cause the engine to start running the correct way again, this may not work with heavier petrol engines though check and reset your points, give your carb a clean, replace your reeds and spark plug/HT cap and lead
  4. well its not really a beasting, more just banter, but its all part of the fun and i dont really mind as far as im concerned 8 weeks cant go fast enough!, 10 days feels like 10 weeks, im not used to being up at 6 and in bed at 11!
  5. followed by the naughty nurse, hopefully Goff?, got any nurse costumes?
  6. And time is indeed in short supply, im out during all of the day doing either classroom-based lessons, drill practice, Physical training or whatever else they want to throw at us, i get in around 7 in the evening and wash/iron/box fold/present all my kit in my lockers, by which time im usually knackered and ready for bed, hence i have very little time to use my laptop, today being an exception because we have the evening off im currently doing my basic training, so im in Aylesbury in buckinghamshire. in 52 days time (21st October, 5 days before my bday ) i will be graduating from here and moving to RAF Cosford in wolverhampton to train as an Airframe Maintanence Technician (Mechanical), after that who knows
  7. wasnt me OG, my jawa is still in my dads shed, but i now have the new rotor but just need to fit it and give it a try. Anyhoo, RAF is good, getting used to living in a barrack block with 10 other people, not enjoying the 5am starts in the freezing cold because some muppet left the window open all night. getting the hang of the ironing and getting used to the constant beasting from the P.Ed staff, lol. ive been affectionately known as "Mouse", because im the smallest (and youngest) member of my flight, and my second name (Mortimer) was the name of a cartoon mouse at some point... i say affectionately but i stil get the piss taken out of me . im on day 10 now, so only 52 days left (yes, we are all counting the days!), cant wait for the next 8 weeks to be over!
  8. Hey peeps! Tomorrow is my attestation at RAF Halton, the day i start my basic training as a member of the armed forces, and i can't fekin wait! give it a few weeks i will probably try and weld a pair of wings onto the jawa... so yes... i will still be around on the forum... only slightly more northern than i was before...
  9. if you ask OG nicely he may give you a pair of his old glasses, you could use the lenses from them as new speedo glass!
  10. new alternator rotor has been sourced and ordered, £13 inc p&p
  11. i can vouche for that, sometimes i stay out past midnight with my ped crew, we hold the annual Traffic Light TT in Newbury ... i was the champion once upon a time until my mate got an Aprillia RS50...
  12. Ironic though isnt it?, considering your name translates from german as "Drive"
  13. depending on how far they have snapped you may be able to wind them out with a pair of needle nosed pliers, or if you can get at it from the inside with a drill use a coarse large diameter drill to spin it out
  14. If a mouse goes outside, does it become a rat? and if there's a rat in the house is it a mouse? :S
  15. i cant really see how that would be, ive tested the diode bank/rectifier and they are all functioning correctly, and i bypassed the regulator when i applied the field current... :S sods law really, when i've got the time to play with it i havent got the money, and when ive got the money i dont have the time! , will have to wait until im in work now as replacing both the regulator and rotor is out of the question, its going to have to be one or the other
  16. tested the rotor winding and have continuity between the two terminals but no continuity to the casing or rotor shaft... negotiations for a second hand rotor have begun...
  17. tried sparking the field current directly from the battery with a multimeter measuring the voltage across the battery but there was no voltage increase in the battery and thus no charge... so i moved the multimeter to the negative side of the rotor but was getting about 0.2 vdc... so, does that mean the rotor is f*cked?
