  1. Welcome tiggermich, i had an SR125 for a short while (1983 with drum brakes) as a little bit of a project (see 'Project Mong' in the projects section) and there are a few other members with SR125s so theres plenty of knowledge on tap here!. As for your headlight, speak to Joe at JD Breakers on 01792580880 and see if he can help you out, i use him for most of my parts and he's always helpfull,
  2. Well with that being the case he could write directly to the DVLA explaining that the bike is registered at his old address, as for not being taxed/sorn for the past 6 years im not sure how to go about that. When i bought my XJ turbo it had not been taxed for 12 years, got a warning when i sorned it online that the DVLA might need to contact me, but considering the bike was made in 1983 and i was born in 1992 they must have been able to work that one out.
  3. Pics or it didnt happen... You aint felt nothing yet...
  4. nah im trying to do this start to finish without bodging anything!
  5. Its still got its switchgear, complete with cables e.t.c, biggest obstacle is the engine :/
  6. Well peeps, i picked up what i thought was a Mk1 RD50MX only to find that its an RD80MX! In need of lots of TLC and missing some vital parts, but no doubt there are precious few of these in existance now. one of the biggest problems im finding is the engine, 80 units are hard to come by and although the DT50 shared engines with the RD50, GT50 and TY50 bikes im wanting to find out if the crankcases, the primary gear ratios are the same for all models of DT50 and DT80 so hopefully i can use the same gearbox. does anyone have access to a microfiche or parts catalogue and could shed some light on this? the shopping list is growing, but wont be doing anything until i can shift grouchs XT...
  7. Turns out its an RD80MX, there will be a project thread in the appropriate section soon gave it a quick once over whilst unloading it, needs the following: Engine (80 top end on 50 cases?...) Handlebars Indicator lenses Screen Headlight bulb Dipstick Helmet/seat lock Steering lock Key Master clyinder and caliper seals Mirrors Flasher relay
  8. You need to download a DVLA V62 FORM, fill it in and send it off along with a cheque for £25, they will then write to the current registered owner (your other halfs dad) and tell him that somebody (you) has applied for to change the registered keeper, if they dont hear back from him in two weeks they will re-issue a V5 certificate in your name, although be aware if he doesnt reply to them and tell them that he is selling/giving the bike to you they may issue him with a £70 fine! As for the bike, the XJ series are relatively bulletproof and you will find plenty of knowledge in the workshop section
  9. side panel painted, new spanny fitted, rear wheel is on with the ma-hoo-sive 3.00x18 rear tyre (seriously, ive seen bicycles with bigger tyres than that!) and best of all the fork gators actually look proportionate to the spaghetti forks! cheers Paul! however, on the first test ride it seems that the gear lever and/or shaft have worn splines so now it just slips gonna need to sort that out then... will post some pics later in the week.
  10. I can has mine as medium? now to send my money pidgeon to you.
  11. good chance the gear lever has aswell, if you go to change into second does the lever hit the bottom of the engine case?
  12. Noooo!. gonna do the same as i did to the DT, strip it and rebuild it and then hide it away for many many years
  13. Look what i finded! OMG isnt it the coolest thing ever? its like a donkey in running shoes! shame i just scrapped tow DT engines
  14. it cant be that bad Laura dont get disheartened, you mentioned wiggling the wires helps which could indicate that it is earthing somewhere (wires chafing on the frame perhaps) causing the electrical feeds to various parts of the bike to be disrupted.
  15. was gonna say, i could spin one up on the lathe if you were short of a solution.
  16. Now where's my valentines kiss you big tease
  17. Side panel has arrived back home, fork gators have also arrived, rear wheel is at home, got another spanny to fit and an engine case for the XT... just need this rain to hurry up and f*ck off so i can get back to the workshop and get it finished! Maybe i should just sell all my bikes and build an ark
  18. i for one love valentines day, its the one day of the year where i can sit in my room drinking, crying and shouting adelle songs at my cat without people thinking im weird.
  19. No, im a Foamy, two very different creatures, one has wool the other has fur, one has hooves the other has feet that function as hands. just in case your still confused, i can pick up a doughnut with my toes...
  20. Okay okay, im gonna go for... 4... Yes, definately 4.
  21. Yamaha DT50 is almost finished! :)

  22. On second thoughts, maybe i should focus on finishing the DT, then getting my own place so i can fill it with bikes, would be nice if i could keep the DT and the Fireblade inside all warm and dry for many years but so long as im living in a barracks thats definately a no
  23. Cheers peeps, felt really good to have the donkey up and running again. Now for the bad news, since the military have been dragged in to bail out the governments shortfall with regards to the UKs flooding im not going to be around for a few weeks, so no more tinkering with the donkey
