'fraid im not familiar with YPVS, that basically an electronic restriction? (like on the CDI?) there should be some walkthroughs on here somewere regarding a plug chop, but basically: ride your bike down the street and let it rev out before you change gear, cut the engine and coast into your driveway/garage, take the spark plug out and have a look at it, if it is white, blistered and/or has "whiskers" on it then this indicates a lean running engine, if it is black and sootey this indicates an engine running rich, and ideal mixture would leave a chocolatey brown colour on the top of the spark plug. quite often you will need to remove the airbox to get enough room to fit a 29mm K&N style air filter, on mine i had to remove the rubber pipe connecting the engine to the airbox and cut a bit out of the front of my airbox to fit it, but it is a cheap and worthwhile mod especially on these free-reving two strokers

go up to about a 220-230, buy a few at one time and experiment, do a plug chop and find which jet works best for you. are you running any other mods?, K&N filter?

do you have a haynes manual?, if not tis a good idea to get one as it will include all details and walkthroughs of timing and valves e.t.c timing marks should be on the cam gears, usually two dots on each gear that line up. only four stroke ive ever reset the timing on was a Honda GX250 Generating set, turned out a valve had dropped off inside the cylinder
  7. i have to ride whatever the weather, I've spent 16 years catching lifts off people and they are either late or take "detours" to do the shopping first or pick up a mate or other stuff, i can't stand to wait for people screwing around so now i have my own transport i love my little DT really, sure it breaks down a lot and i keep falling off it, but it gives me independence to go where i want and when i want... think i may have to let it go though

preferably a dirt/trials bike as i like the riding position and general styling of them. however i may consider a sports bike for the right price...

yeh but trailer tent axles are self-contained units with suspension, readily available and easy to fit hence why i would rather use them, however if a rear axle does crop up from somewere then thats something to consider. its only going to be carrying my DT and maybe something a bit bigger (400?) in a couple of years so it doesnt need to be braked or have heavy duty suspension. i got some plans drawn up and a rough sketch on my workshop floor of the size of the thing, do i need to register it to be road legal? including towhitch it will be 10ft long by 3ft wide

how far away from Newbury (RG14) is suffolk?, if i can get there avoiding motorways then i can come have a look during the summer holidays (13th-21st Feb) i just dont want to end up with some pokey, horrible, un-stylish little peashooter that wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding and falls down every hole it comes too

Gas-up: Classic example, DONT TAKE IT LYING DOWN if that twat in the volvo had hit you then you would have been able to take him to court and no doubt he would have been punished for dangerous driving aswell as other offences. even on my DT50 i dont take shit from anyone who thinks just because they have a big range rover the rules of the road dont apply to them, if someone tries to overtake me in a stupid place i stand my ground
  12. wild foamy replied to gav dt's post in a topic in The Bar
lol, good stuff.. welcome to the forum, i know those DT50s' can be horrible little bastards when they dont want to go, so if you need any help just let us know

theres nothing i love more than tinkering, repairing, replacing and rebuilding things, so i dont mind having to do some work on it aslong as it isnt too rusty, dont want to be forever welding the floor back in... the 1.3 capris, although nice, are said to be somewhat gutless and are rare as rocking horse sh*te, the 1.6s' are very nice and there was a very tidy one on ebay not too long ago for £699 (classified ad) which just needed a bit of paint tidying up but did not need welding or anything major and structural.

yeh, if i can find one for a good price then thats something to consider... oh, and it must be blue, i got blue leathers and a blue helmet to match my DT50 so the new bike must be blue

i can TIG and MIG weld, havent tried ARC welding yet though... gonna go to the local scrapyard and see if i can find me some goodies... preferably a set of axles off a trailer

even when im riding shotgun in my parents cars' i find myself doing lifesavers, checking the mirrors and talking through the whole procedure. "mirror, mirror, lifesaver, indicate e.t.c..." i reckon i'd be a better driver than my mum... LOL

you can fit an oversized piston but you would need to get the barrel bored out to accept the extra width, go on ebay, there are big bore kits for about £45 on there, it is basically a 60cc piston and a whole new barrel which replaces your old one, i had one and it was great, used to get 50mph+ from it but didnt jet my carb and it chewed itself up. you will need to rejet your carb, i was originally going up from a 99 to a 115. to get the best use out of it i suggest you also look at getting an aftermarket exhaust and a pod style (K&N) air filter, both of these would require re-jetting (mine already had a filter and exhaust together and came jetted from a 88 to a 99) and are cheap and easy to do if you are wanting more speed then perhaps change your gearing?, the largest front sprocket available i think is a 14t and the smallest rear is a 44t which will give a noticeable increase in top speed at the expense of acceleration. ive tried every trick in the book to get more speed out of my DT and the exhaust is probably one of the easiest ones to do and give a surprising amount of extra power, it lets the engine breathe a lot better and when used with a K&N air filter causes less restriction in the engine,

yeh, just had a look in my haynes and if indeed the clutch rod is snapping then there is something very wrong but i doubt it is clutch related which of the two pushrods is supposedly snapping?, the one on the left-hand side or right-hand side?
  19. wild foamy replied to gav dt's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
the DT50MX clutch rod is a solid bar, i will have a look in my haynes manual and see what i can dig up. yours is the same year as mine, mines done 24,000 miles and is still on the original rod... any idea where the other 1cm is going if it has snapped off inside the case?

Cars give people a sense of authority, hence why people in 4x4s think they own the roads and cut up other car drivers, and why people in estates cut up fiat pandas, and why fiat pandas and everyone else cuts up us bikers. on a 50cc its worse, you can't accelerate as fast and are sometimes a bit slow to react and people just dont want to wait, you can't keep up with traffic so people will follow you with full beam headlights and overtake in dangerous situations. Car drivers need to be taught motorcycle awareness, no question about it, and learners NEED a more powerful bike, i refuse to ride on the dual carriageway because lorries are restricted to 55 and my top speed is about 45-50mph, and the last thing i want is to be overtaken by a lorry! (would end up spread across the tarmac)

yeh i had a look at those a while back, im just looking for a second hand one around £750, age and mileage doesnt really matter aslong as it has long legs and is cheap.
  22. replaced the headlamp wiring and put a new jubilee clip on the carb, all is well now. feels great
  23. wild foamy replied to wild foamy's post in a topic in The Bar
... including the big bore its on its 3rd... its not easy finding a modern car that is good looking, under 1.6 capacity, not rotten and cheap to insure. even a 1L suzuki swift will cost me £2,000 to insure it
  24. is it free to park for motorcycles?

hi everyone. would quite like to build a motorcylce trailer so i can transport my DT around without having to call my dad over to pick it up in the van or for when i next breakdown miles from anywere. my dad recently built himself a double-axles trailer using a trailer tent chassis and wheels, box section and checker plate, are there any plans/drawings available for fabricating a single or maybe even double motorcycle trailer? regards Steve
