i was refering more to the sissy bars on supersports bikes. my dads CBR imparticular has that feeling that it will tip you off, mainly because its got soft suspension and the pillion seat is so high up, the sissy bar is so low down that there really isnt much leverage to stop you coming off. when i was little(er) it wasnt much of a problem but me being the tall lanky bugger that i am now it means that i am up a lot higher on the pillion seat and more likely to tip off.

Hi everyone. are there any popular meets this summer that aren't too far away from Berkshire? (Newbury specifically), would like to get out and meet some of you nutters in person but due to my current ride being a bit tempermental at times i can't really travel further than 50 miles around newbury without carrying a toolkit and a towrope. consequently, anyone going to any meets in the summer and wouldn't mind taking a pillion passenger? regards Steveo
  4. yeh, when i first put it on it was bogging in the mid-range to the point where it would not rev higher and sounded like it was 4-stroking a lot, i dropped the needle one position and this helped a bit

as bove, make sure they are able to reach the pegs and are protected. i absolutely love riding pillion on my dads CBR900RR Urban Tiger, that thing flies did like his CBX1000 though as that had a leather strap across the seat to hold on to, i dont really rate sissy bars as sudden takeoffs tend to throw you back, and it just feels like your going to flip over the back of the bike. Maybe you could buy your daughter a 1990 DT50MX?... there's one in the for sale section... *whistles*
  6. "Some say... he can smell 2-stroke oil from upto a mile away... All we know is... he's called ShoKz " my dad has a caberg hat with the flip-down internal sunvisor and whilst i havent personally tried it i hear nothing but good things, especially if you wear normal glasses (which means you can't wear sunglassesa). my Wulfsport helmet has a peak on it because it is MX style and that does the job very well. simple and effective
  7. erm, the big bore i had on it is gone, the bore was fine albeit a little scratched but the piston had very deep scratches and the rings were ruined. for the price i was quoted for a re-bore and new piston kit i picked up a second brand new kit off ebay and that has not missed a beat since ive had it. did a plug chop and the original plug is a chocolatey brown colour, also put a new plug in there but needs to run it in before doing a plug chop as it doesnt seem to be showing any particualr colour well. if i turn the fuel tap off it does seem to run better through the mid-range before cutting out.

i got the V62 Form downloaded and just need to fill in the VIN and Registration number before sending it off, have requested a reciept from the seller which i will photocopy and include with the V62 explaining that it was bought form a deceased estate and no documents were present at the time of sale
  9. compression was pretty much gone and no amount of bumping it or kicking it would get it to run, only the occasional loud Bang.
  10. the top end is fine, as soon as it is past the midrange it really takes off and you can feel it. dont really want to go downsizing jets incase i make the top end too lean...
  11. will do, need to drop into halfords tomorrow and get a 14mm 1/2'dr spark plug adaptor... my toolkit only came with a 10mm one
  12. well it was there one minute (i was going uphill so had dropped a gear and was revving it higher than usual) and then completely cut out, no popping or other noises, just asif you had hit the killswitch and it was just winding down off the momentum from the back wheel, not seized up, just not firing spent several minutes kicking it and trying to bump it up and down the road but to no avail, after about a dozen kicks it would make a huge bang, scareing the sh*t out of me and the surrounding woodland inhabitants
  13. well with the first big bore kit i found deep scores all down the sides of the piston and the ports on the barrell, the rings were scratched and would not seal which resulted in lack of compression and the engine refused to start. for £30 i bought a whole new bore and barrell, at the time it seamed a much easier thing to do. what temperature (*C) should it be running?, i have an infra-red temperature gun and can take a reading running the current jet and a reading with the smaller jet and compare the two to see if the smaller one is making it run excessively hot. i dont particularly want to down-size the jet again and risk screwing up another big bore kit... the stock mikuni jet for the DT50 is an #88, and my one has a full BigOne exhaust and expansion pipe kit, a K&N filter and i think running a big bore would be too much for the #98 jet to handle.

Hi everyone. the new Jawa 350 i bought doesn't have a V5c, and my dad has told me that if i get a reciept with the bike explaining that the documents weren't found when the bike was sold and that it was boguht from a deceased estate (i.e. it belonged to the dad of the bloke i bought it off) then i would not have to pay the £25 fee for a new V5C is this correct?, if so how do i apply for a V5C under these terms? regards Steve

ooh, v nice . just thinking about it now, i could add a topbox and some panniers and make the Jawa a tourer... too good to butcher for a streetfighter project methink...

THey dont slow down for corners because they can't afford to!, it takes too long to build up the speed again. 20,000 RPM for how long?, if i tried that on my peashooter it would most likely spit the big bore kit back out. Jawa may handle the abuse though... Hmm... got me an idea for my next road trip...
  17. not really, just want to get it running right. ive had the DT 4 months now and im 17 this October, so thats only 8 months away, i dont think there really is much point in me getting another 50 if im just keeping it for 8 months. and after im 17 i will be taking my full test and playing with the Jawa instead, the DT will either be sold on or tucked up in the corner of the garage to be exhumed in a few decades. plus it is my day-to-day bike and needs to be running right, and apart from sending the first big bore kit into meltdown by not jetting it properly it has been reliable and i want to keep it that way

hi there. it is a legal requirement for a brake light in the UK, as far as rigging one up is concerned its not hard but you will need electrical skills and a lot of patience. it does involve modifying the wiring loom and a fair bit of tinkering, so only attempt this if you know what you are doing or you are likely to mess it up. you can buy lighting units on the net, these are 3 wire units with one wire going to earth, one going to a microswitch so that it activates the main (usually 21w) filament on the brake light bulb when the brake lever is pulled and the microswitch is released. it also has a third wire which goes into the same circuit as your headlamp so that when your headlamp is on the secondary filament (5w) illuminates on the brake light. its common practice to use bullet connectors and if your a dab-hand at DIY you could have it done over the weekend Busters accessories did some 12v/6v brake light units but i can't seem to find them on their website
  19. Hi everyone. Have fitted the big bore kit to my DT50 and this time added a bigger jet (#115, from the #98 that was originaly in there) and now it seems to be overly rich, starts on a light kick first time every time and idles very nicely, but in the low-to-mid range it feels very slow, if im in 5th gear at 30/35mph on a flat, it will barely pull me and only when i change down a gear does it accelerate. at first it was bad to the point where in the mid-range it would bog down alot, but i dropped the needle one position and it seems to have solved that. there is a large powerband high up the RPM, it can be physically felt when the engine reaches this as it really takes off but as soon as you change up a gear you loose allt he power and its back to square one. so whats the problem?, too rich?, too lean? i had a fiddle with the idle mixture screw a while ago to get it to idle nicely on the standard bore. regards Steve

Love the smell of two stroke already, lol only 4 stroke thumper i really like is the Honda Dominator, i would prefer something tall as im quite a lanky bugger and dont like being squashed up on a tiny bike. even that DT of mine feels a bit small when i sit on my mates Suzuki RMX50. just had a thought... would it be possible to streetfighter a Jawa 350?
  22. wild foamy replied to wild foamy's post in a topic in General
chances are ten years down the line i will be riding an R1 instead Someone has just emailed me about the DT and said they are interested in buying it, i admit i will be sad to see it go though... just giving a bit of thought to the forks on the Jawa, had a look on ebay and forks tend to be a bit pricey so its probably more worth my while going to a breakers yard and sourcing spares there

lol, only real difference is that Volvo would be a Ford Capri theres loads of people making little trailers specificly for bike use, just typing "Jawa trailer" into google image search and its come up with a Jawa 250 towing a "Rav" trailer are there any guidelines for trailer dimensions or is it just limited to your bike being able to pull the trailer?
  24. wild foamy replied to wild foamy's post in a topic in General
ah right, lol will be picking it up on Friday in Swindon, it will be in the garage safely under lock and key before 'er indoors gets wind of what is happening saw some pics on google of a Red and white Jawa towing a little trailer! ... is that actually legal/possible? would be handy for carting some of my crap around...
